If they don't make the Lillard trade and still hire AG, the team would have a worse record right now. Offense has been bailing them out.

I know there are a ton of Khris haters out there and wanted him gone two seasons ago... but he's a baller. he's finally ramping up and this team was pretty damn good with him on the court in his limited minutes and look even better with him around 30 mins.... I've been a big critic of this defense but this offense is flat out ELITE.

Going to say the same thing i have said during the title run. This team is judged based on what they do in the playoffs. If they're healthy and khris is available for the 16 wins needed in the playoffs, i think this team will win it.

The defense has to be mediocre/avg during the playoffs and I think with games slowing down in the 4th, the bucks should be able to play at least avg defense come playoff time.

just keep this core healthy!!!!

I'd guess OKC says no, but they have a bunch of guards and not a lot of girth. Thunder get their girth in Bobby, along with a young wing. Bucks get their perimeter stopper and a young, cheap, switchable big.

MKE in: Lu Dort, Jaylin Williams
MKE out: Bobby, Marjon, RoLo

Griffin is part of the offensive improvement. Bucks have a top 5 offensive rating when Dame sits. Bud could only dream of that kind of offense.

We're learning that Bud's offense was really bad. He never properly leveraged Giannis, Khris, and Bobby.

Nah, this idea is still legit crazy. Dame/Beasley/Cam vs. Jrue/Grayson/George Hill is not the difference in historically great defense and "struggling to not be one of the 8-9 worst defenses in the league". There was zero resistance at the rim last night and that's not just because guys are getting beat on the perimeter.

its not zero resistance at the rim, its zero resistance at the 3pt line allowing the guard to just walk into open shots/floaters

This, and it's not a scheme problem. We need a point of attack defender. The defense lost Jrue and Jevon, and Allen was better defensively than Beas. No coach would make this defense better than average. An addition needs to be made.

The Cavs had the number 1 defense last year with their top 5 perimeter players in total minutes being:

Garland
Mitchell
Levert
Okoro
Osman

Okoro is likely the only one we’d consider a good defender, yet they still had the top ranked defense. We shouldn’t be in the 20’s.

Sign a Bobby replacement with the open roster spot.

SWEET but Horst will have to fix it by immediately moving Bogdon to Memphis for David Roddy so Milwaukee's at least receiving two guys with potential. I mean bringing in Saddiq Bey is genius, he fills a gaping hole, so Bey's got more than potential, but Roddy would actually be useful. Of course, a functional backup PG would be great, but we need to bring TyTy along and push for development of our young guys generally.

As i said in a different thread, Griffin has been bringing his guards way out, making them susceptible to getting beat very easily. It is very difficult to pick up an NBA level guard at half court and not be blown by.

The upside of that, I think by design, is that the Bucks are very good at guarding the three point line, a previous weakness.

I wouldn't pick up opposing players until they reach the three point line and I wouldn't be having Giannis way out on the court on defense unless necessary.

yes, about those Cavs.

This is just one set of metrics, but it's revealing. From my understanding (please correct me, anybody, if i'm wrong), 0 is average while positive numbers are above average and neg numbers are below. The last column is defense.

Image

Notice how great both Mobley and Allen are defensively and how each of their wings/guards are at the very least average defensively. (side note: judging by their color scale, it seems easier for bigs to achieve higher defensive scores, making Mitchell's score more impressive compared to similar players).

Now, here are this year's Bucks:

Image

If there is any merit to this, it would appear that we have very little in common with last year's Cavs defensively.

Bucks were 15th last season in offense.

And what Shooting has so graciously shown is that when Khris and Giannis are on the court we have a good offense, one of those guys was missing last season. Seasons we had both? Really **** good.

Misused Bobby Portis:
1.2 VORP, 1.8 OBPM
1.1 VORP, 1.2 OBPM
1.2 VORP, 1.2 OBPM

Properly used Bobby Portis:
.2 VORP, -.3 OBPM

Middleton has averaged just 24 minutes a game this year, and has missed numerous games.

I'm a Middleton fan, but it's pretty disingenuous to give him all the credit for our success this year.

What I'm saying is that when you talk about our offense without Dame Lillard being good as a knock on Bud and a credit to Griffin is dumb because we have had really good offenses without Dame Lillard with Bud coaching and the obvious "but last year!" excuse I know is going to be used is pretty discredited considering Khris didn't really even play.

kind of a nonsense argument to have. who cares if Griffin is better than Bud at offensive scheming? what matters is how we can improve from what we have right now. we need to be churning out defensive wing trade target takes, not skirmishing over dumb dumb A and dumb dumb B.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
