Re: Bucks News, Transactions and Trade Ideas - 2025 Off-season
Barring an outright trade request from him, I'm not trading Giannis unless we get offered *multiple* star/superstar upside prospects + picks. Like if San Antonio got #1 (Flagg) and put him on the table + Castle (and specifically Castle, not Sochan or Vassell or anyone else) + picks. Or if OKC is offering Chet + JDub + picks. This Houston **** with Sengun and Jalen Green + picks or whatever needs to stop infecting my timeline because it'd be monumentally stupid. Even if they included Amen I'd honestly be pretty sad about it.
If Giannis is down to stay and have a bit of a reset season, I'd probably just keep him. Eject Doc into space, hire a promising assistant coach from a smart coaching staff (again go after Chris Quinn from Miami), try to retain as many of the age 22-26 guys on the roster (KPJ, GTJ, Green, Rollins, Sims, etc), see if you can find a gem in the FA market (a la Brook in 2018), and generally just position yourself to make a move in the 2026 offseason when we have more tradable picks.

Desperately looking for ways to move on from Kuzma..
Why would NO do this? They still have to pay Kuzma until end of the 27 season. All they are saving is Pat next year and 1 year of Murray assuming he opts in 27/28.
Pat expires and Kuzma depreciates and comes off the books a year earlier than Murray does. Murray’s contract is awful but it’s fitting for a team like the Bucks because it falls in line with Giannis and Dame and if he comes back healthy he’s more useful for a good team than a bad team and I don’t see New Orleans going any other route besides blowing it up now. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s how I see it.
RIP Kobe Forever. GOAT 8-24. Long Live Giannis

MKE: Dejounte Murray, Duncan Robinson, '26 swap rights extinguished
MIA: Dame
NOP: Rozier, (#20?)
Bucks take the downgrade and worse contract for immediate help, regain ability to draft from our position.
Heat get Dame on a discount because of his injury. This appeases him and his BFF in Bam.
Pels get off of Dejounte's albatross contract by extinguishing their '26 swap rights with the Bucks.
Murray / Rollins
Trent / KPJ
Dairy / Robinson
Giannis / Kuzma
Portis / Sims

Why so confident?
Bucks tried to get Sexton in the offseason before Dame became available. As usual, Ainge’s price was way overinflated. Horst tends to make deals with reasonable GMs. When’s the last time Ainge was reasonable in a trade?

What would people rather do since these might legitimately be the only two options:
Trade Giannis or roll into next year with Giannis but Doc is still the coach and the supporting cast is weaker because Horst rightfully isn’t trading 2031 and beyond picks since Giannis is not signed beyond 2027?
The vibes from the team are definitely sticking with Doc and only trading Giannis if he asks out.

If that’s what it comes down to, it’s still an easy decision for me. Keep Giannis.

Is Amen Thompson just 2025 Josh Smith?

Don't think Smoove has the quickness Amen has. Also Amen seems to have a much higher BBIQ.

Was Josh Smith ever considered even a better than average defender? Isn’t Amen considered a very good to elite defender?
Fun fact, the pick that became Giannis was traded for a Josh Smith rental until Danny Ferry backed out of the deal. I think about that every time someone praises Hambone for drafting Giannis.

I don’t have direct access to X but I saw a stat where NBA teams are 943-19 in the NBA playoffs when leading by 7+ points at 35 seconds to go in a game (since 2000). Doc Rivers himself is 34-17

That seems like Kuminga to me.

I'm pretty sure that was just a completely made up stat. I think blowing a lead of that size with that little time left is a lot rarer than that.Bucksmaniac wrote:I don’t have direct access to X but I saw a stat where NBA teams are 943-19 in the NBA playoffs when leading by 7+ points at 35 seconds to go in a game (since 2000). I think Smith was viewed as a very good defender but this was also before we really knew how to determine who good defenders were. He had a lot blocks and steals and therefore was good. He was top 10 in DPOY voting 4 times including being the runner up once.tedbrogen wrote:Was Josh Smith ever considered even a better than average defender? This is the stat I remember reading.
Then there's this stat, via ESPN: Since 1997-98, when trailing by 7+ points in final 40 seconds of fourth quarter/OT in the playoffs, teams were 0-1,609.
Pretty impressive.

Oh yeah, I remember that one now, I guess I fell for fake news.

The three guys I want (Sengun, Amen and Reed) are 22, 22 and 20 respectively. Those are young dudes with room to grow.
But the real appeal of Houston also are the draft picks they hold. They have multiple unprotected PHX picks and a BKN pick. Those are valuable and juicy. A better bet to be much higher than the picks OKC or SAS hold.
