My guess as to the actual top 5 when its looked at 3 years from now:

1) Parker
2) Exum
3) Wiggins
4) Embiid
5) Vonleh

And that's the difference in basketball and football, guaranteed contracts. Get rid of guaranteed contracts in basketball, everyone will have the drive to play defense (to get paid) and it will all be based on athleticism. But until that point, we'll have players getting fat immediately into their contracts while tying their shoes on defense.

Yes, because historically defense is what gets you paid.

They happened in the Summer of 2012, once he healed up he came back and played the rest of his high school Senior year and the full season last year at Duke big minutes without missing a game. They haven't shown to be reoccurring injuries for him.

Why are you saying historically when there is no recent history to go on with non-guaranteed contracts in the NBA?

He's saying that the list of players who "got paid" in contract years because they put PPGZ and pretty box score #'s is much, much longer than guys who were paid contracts for their "defensive prowess".

What would you say is more likely if non-guaranteed contracts were in effect: numbers chasing **** basketball, or dudes suddenly giving max effort on defense? My point was that scorers get paid.

Defensive specialists get paid, too. And they get to wear bow ties while they're working.

This whole idea that in the post-hand-check era, for a perimeter player, defensive ability is as important or nearly as important as scoring ability is hard for me to understand. Wiggins could be Bowen-like defensively, but if he can't handle the ball or get to the rim in the pros, he's more likely to follow the Bowen career path and end up playing in Europe than he is riding the express train to Springfield, Mass.

Except Wiggins isn't anywhere close to Bowen. Bowen's only offense was a corner 3 and he was about 25% of the athlete Wiggins is. Such a weird comparison.

Teams wouldn't have to be stuck with the contract year players though. If players want to keep that contract, they'll have to play like they did the previous season. There will still be **** GMs signing **** players to **** contracts based on scoring. But taking away a dude's money within a few months of signing for it cause he doesn't give a **** anymore can motivate him to at least give effort out there. It's stupid to compare football to basketball though.

This is all beside the point though. The majority of NBA basketball players are athletic and should be skilled enough to guard their counterpart after a few years of learning NBA basketball. LIS, the last 20% of defense is athleticism that will put the player over the top as a defender. The first 80%, is actually putting effort in learning about the player you'll be guarding and actually trying.

I believe Parker can easily become at least an average defender (like Tobes) and doesn't need to be Bruce Bowen out there if he can take people off the dribble and hit that fadeaway jumper in the post. I also don't know what is more likely, Parker becoming an average defender or Wiggins learning how to dribble.

Man, some of the arguments and comparisons on here are getting crazy pointless.

This board will be debating finger dexterity as it relates to inbound passing and tip offs before the draft gets here...I literally think everything else has been debated to death.

Are there any forum statistics on the use of the 'ignore' feature and how much more it gets used leading up to the draft versus historical norms? That could keep us busy for a day or two.

My guess would be that most people either rarely or never use the Ignore feature. Personally, I have never ignored even 1 person in any forum I have been a part of.

If you dislike someone or what they post, just laugh at them in your own head or simply scroll past it. I've never felt the need to hide my eyes from what spmeone else might say.

I feel as though if we pick T. Antetokounmpo this genetically superior hands will help in generating much louder high-5's on the bench, which will instill the solid slap-culture needed for a winner.
