Every time he makes the smart pass ahead of the defense, makes a good post move, uses a hook shot, avoids a charge or makes a proper rotation my heart skips a beat. He's just doing it more often recently and it's not only flashes... This is the change most likely to make any difference towards us winning a championship - more than any bench player or buyout candidate although those are still important too

Swan Vox wrote:You know who Giannis reminds me of recently? A 7ft Thannasis. Just all energy, barreling into people without a plan. The difference between him and LeBron was staggering the other night. Someone needs to lock him in a room with Jrue and teach the kid patience, how to change speeds and when to hit the gas / brakes. In short he needs a focus on pace and fundamentals. My goodness, if you combined his athleticism with Duncan’s fundamental soundness, you’d have the perfect basketball player. I agree with everyone saying he should be working on his post game. Give me more Hakeem shake and less Westbrook.

Well they are brothers so yeah they are alike :D
But Thanasis is probably even more athletic pound for pound, if he was the same height as Giannis he'd be the most terrifying thing ever to set foot on a basketball court.

If you think about Giannis, the thing that really sets him apart from other total specimens like Gobert/Shaq/Dwight and the like is that he has an actual legit handle, which is crazy for a 7 footer. Not a fancy handle, but very very effective and safe, never has the ball easily stolen, never dribbles on his foot, can accelerate and push the ball up court etc. No 7 footer before was able to do that. Thanasis doesn't even have that.

Giannis is definitely “getting it” at a rapid rate this year.

Something I've been tracking since Feb, Giannis FT numbers.

Here are some fun trends....

February 15 games, Giannis 74.69% on FTs.
March 5 games, Giannis 80% on FTs.
POST ASB 3 games, Giannis 95% on FTs. (He's 20/21, missed one throw since ASB!).

Combine Feb/March 20 game sample size he's 75.76% on FTs.

in those 20 games of Feb/March he only had 3 games that were stinkers below 65%. He had a two 4-6 games and one 2-3 game which I don't care about.

If you go back to Giannis LOW POINT in the season, where he went 1/10 and many of us were in panic mode and his coaches were running sprints post game on practice misses, the next 6 games Jan 19th to end of the month He had a couple stinkers but went 62%. OVERALL since Post Jan 16th (his 10% FT% debacle) he's at 72.35%

The numbers are really encouraging, he's at 67.2% over the season, but the real number is the 75.76% over the last 20 games in Feb/Mar.

This year Giannis (and the Bucks) is like they do not exist. Nobody on sports shows talks about him. He is not an mvp candidate. Even on this board this thread has never been so deserted.

The fact is that since we fizzled out of the playoffs nobody wants to say something good. There is nothing bad to say either, he has signed his extension so there is no drama and questions about the future.

In a way it is understandable, till Bucks and Giannis have great playoffs they appear as a fake regular season team/player

A couple developments I see with Giannis recently are his ability to be a passer and distrubutor, and then switch over to being a scorer.

Giannis has closed out a few games this year. He's having the most dominant 4th quarters of his career.

I like he is learning to play when it matters most in the 4th.

I like seeing him get 36 minutes in those games where's he needed most or all of the final quarter.

That's a small but really important addition to his game.

I think it's been a fun year watching him learn how to manage a game and how to manage a 4th quarter.

I also like the recent trend of him only shooting 2-3 3s per game.

Maybe there was a game recently where we shot 6-7 3s but it seems lately his taking less.

The free throws, the big 4th quarters, the bigger minutes, the ability to go into distrubutor mode.... They aren't as sexy or as noticeable as previous years growth, but they are fairly important and it's nice to see that growth happening this season.

I think the packers ending broke a lot of americans fans. At the time the Bucks were also playing like crap so I think it hit the limit on many fans.

The truth is we are not one of the favourites to win this chip this year. No depth, inconsistent shooting and a coach without quick adjustments against elite coaches, elite shooting, more superstar power, more depth and more experience.

This is the first time we are going as the underdogs(slight). I think it will help us at least perform better.

I noticed this, too. Very CP3 of him. Get his teammates shots in the first three quarters and take over the fourth, if needed.

He's definitely learning how to pace himself a bit more. I do see him trying maybe 50-75% on defense in certain stretches and he's looking to get others involved in the first-half more often. The encouraging thing is that he's not hunched over holding onto his knees t the start of the 4th completely gassed as was often the case in past seasons.

Once Holiday can get his cardio/conditioning back to form I'd like to see him assume more ball-handling in the 4th, allowing Freak to play more off-ball and not have to both initiate and score/playmake. When he's a screener in pick-and-roll or when he's posting up teams panic and immediately either send a double or the entire lane collapses when he rolls, leaving guys wide open.

The Jump brought him up near the end of the show today. Could tell it was pretty forced.

I'm ecstatic with how he's been playing lately, and I'd say most here are too. It's easier to complain that be positive or constructive.

I think as a board, we collectively understand what is coming is the focus, not what has happened or even is happening now.

Looks like a good cast, now all they have to do is teach them Greek. Only takes a couple of decades LOL

Actually it's probably the most impossible cast to complete, I can imagine the Director:
"I need 4 freakishly long and athletic young actors who look like brothers and speak Greek, English and Nigerian with a hybrid accent, okthanksbye"
