Feels like we're back to the same pre-championship criticisms of Giannis (i.e. use him more like a true rim-running big) and just like 3-years ago, I can't get behind that. I think we all need to accept that this is likely the finished product of him as a player, and that even the greatest offensive minds aren't going to just magically come in here and X's and O's him into having better offensive IQ.

This. Giannis' game is what it is after 10 years. His BBIQ isn't changing. Not that a different coach can't make changes to the offense. But any thoughts that his game will somehow magically transform are misplaced.

It doesn’t need to transform it just needs to be reigned in.

He's got everything he needs to be unstoppable, we just need some teamwork offensively.

Generally speaking, I think 90% of our halfcourt problems would be solved if 1) we worked as a team to get catches for Giannis inside 15 feet and 2) Giannis went immediately on the catch. If the double's there, he should be able to get rid of it with a touch. If nobody's open, that's not on Giannis. If the double's not there, he's going to win clean a lot of the time if he goes right away, and the rest of the time he's going to have a lot of opportunities to use the fakes and counters *that he has* but which aren't super useful when he's backing a guy down, because most good defenders are just going to wait for him to shoot a turnaround and let him. It just doesn't work to get a touch at 15 feet, let Bam anchor, and then try to back him down. You're never going to get a great shot out of that. But if you turn, face, go, that's Game 6 Giannis.

It's the waiting that kills us: guys waiting for Giannis to go, Giannis waiting for guys to cut, defense getting progressively more organized.

I'd have no hope of changes if we haven't seen him do it before for stretches.

To me it's akin to telling prime D-Wade "less attacking the rim and splitting double teams, more mid-range pullups and baseline cuts off-ball". Giannis in this hybrid Draymond/Bam high post role is a complete waste of what makes him great. Think we as a fanbase just need to accept that maximizing Giannis on the court requires him to play a style more conducive to wear & tear. That's why I'm much more interested in these guys' ideas for the rest of the roster and how to differently utilize Brook, Jrue, Khris etc. Giannis is the easiest dude in the world to coach.

This is what I hope the new coach establishes. I think the "guys go wait at the 3 point line to get something off of Giannis' gravity" is a decent starting point, but we need these guys doing off-ball screens and moving. Giannis is a pretty willing passer, but when guys stand in their pre-assigned spots and wait for the ball, instead of moving behind Giannis to the empty space he's created, is what causes the breakdowns because defensive guys don't back off, Giannis is forced into driving into two (which then causes a collapse on him) or trying a cross court pass that is usually defended.

Doc is the ultimate “no my problem” coach. Redick and Jamal Crawford recently had a good discussion about it.

Giannis is what he is. But today you need guy who will score one on one with jumper in 4th quarter. Like Curry or Tatum does. Middleton was our guy for that when we won it all. But Middleton was injured 2022 and not same player this year.

Bottom line, if Midds cant be that guy for us then we need to find new guy for that role. Someone like Lilard for example.

No matter who is coach we need that guy.

I think I’m changing my choice to Atkinson.

Really intrigued to see what he would bring after working with Lue and Kerr post his Nets' tenure.

Every candidate will be asked about Miami and their offensive/defensive philosophy. And asked specifically about our roster. It's why it's a good idea to interview a slew of them

Totally agree. The point I wanted to and failed to make is I think he deserves an opportunity to answer those questions and be judged on the quality of those answers.

How about, "Where were you when Bud was self-destructing/not adjusting/not using timeouts?"

What exactly are you proposing an assistant can or should do there?

Has there ever been an off-season like this with coaching movement? Can't recall the last time three legit contenders fired their coaches at the same time. Whoever lands in the Bucks, 6ers and Suns' jobs is gonna get paid.

On the same token it's wild to have 4 separate Championship winning Head coaches be available in Bud, Nurse, Vogel, & Rivers. And possibly a 5th depending on what happens with Lue. Not too mention Udoka or Monty who got to the finals but lost

Probably Atkinson.

This is a sad list. Gets sadder if Doc enters the arena. Woof

Being in their coaches ear, keeping him on track with game management. Speaking up in timeouts if they notice something isn't working. Not sitting back and doing nothing. I'm all for Lee getting his shot, but a great assistant steps in to try to stop the bleeding, imo.

they should lie and just say Nurse interviewed, I can't take Horst being so stupid that he actually thinks Monty Williams, Mark Jackson, and Doc Rivers would be good hires. Not a basketball mind, go back to FedEx loser.

Over the years, I have enjoyed lurking on this board because you guys are great at bringing forward any snippet of news about my beloved Bucks. On that same note, when there's a decision looming and nothing is leaking, I've noticed the board tends to freak out a bit.

As for me, I can agree that the delay is a bit unsettling but I like to think that with nothing leaking there's no pressure from anyone other than fans for them to be in a hurry. Let the market develop, talk to the guys you're at all interested in, and then when you are confident you have your guy you make your hire. Nobody's hired anybody yet so no one is off the board and there's no need to rush. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but "trust the process"

I agree with your last sentence trust the process the fact that horst is bring critisized already amd hasnt even hired a HC yet tells me that whoever he brings in he will still get hamnered on this board.
All this guy has done is interview yet to some pisters he shoyld be fired hes a idiot hes incompetent cause he interviews someone they dont like.Ive said it before hold your hatred of horst until after his hiring he did good by bringing in bud let he do it again
