They haven't made a better Spider-Man game than Just Cause 2. Tell me where the lie is.

Very disappointing too. It is sitting at 76 on metacritic but the reviews/videos I've seen leave a lot to be desired. Will be waiting a bit to even consider picking it up.

CityPlannerPlays did a great breakdown on something like 85 different CPU/GPU/RAM combinations, posted over the weekend. Even with the performance patch on Friday, you basically need a 3- series to play on low settings at 1080p. The closest thing to my desktop setup, with a 2070S, was getting sub-30 FPS on very low settings. Looks like my one-year old, near-top line laptop could support medium settings, but that's just wild and it doesn't feel good to only be able to play on that.

Yea I have a 5800x/3080Ti so I should be fine, but will likely need to play windowed mode at 1080p to really make sure it runs well. I wasn't super annoyed with what the IGN review was calling out, it seemed a bit nit-picky, and something you'd only notice when really zoomed in. But, the game itself didn't seem that amazing from what I saw. I feel like this is another situation where I will just wait until the patches really get going.

The un-leveled land/building placement thing the IGN review focused on would be a big eyesore for me. Like I still would have picked-up the game if I could reasonably play it, but it already drove me crazy in C:S and it somehow looked significantly worse in C:S2.

Kind of want to jump back into C:S now, honestly. I'm just feeling a bit jaded because of how amazing the road tooling looks in C:S2, so now I'm stuck in this spot of neither game feels good enough :-?

Yea I will say textures looked awful in C:S2. And I actually hated the idea of having to put in transformers and stuff in order to convert voltages to residential. But I get it, that's the idea behind a city sim. I think I'm going to get the mods installed for C:S (oddly enough, I've never done any mods for it, I just play vanilla) and that should be a new enough experience for me.

What did you guys think of Mario Wonder? I have an 8 and 5 year old and was going to buy it this weekend but we ended up not having time to play it so I haven't yet.

Also side note. I won a couple Xbox and PlayStation gift cards but don't have either system. Is there anything I can do with these?

Wonder is great. Two adults playing, so not specific kid feedback, but we had a blast in the hour we've played so far. My partner is not a gamer really, so it was a big plus that we both enjoyed it.

It didn't seem overly difficult so far. There are also characters that can't take damage or die, I believe, so should be kid-friently.

Finally got around to playing Path of Exile this league.

League mechanic is alright, not my favorite, but I also don't hate it. Loot doesn't seem great at low ratings, but I hear it gets really good as you progress.

Ended up grabbing Diablo IV because work has been brutal and I deserve to turn my brain off for a bit of fun after ten hour days. Only around an hour and a half in as a rogue and…it seems good? I feel like it has massively outsized hate online compared to what I’ve experienced, but also I’m not anywhere near end game.

I never played Just Cause but it’s really hard for me to imagine there being a better version of this kind of game. The Insomniac Spider-Man games are probably like top 2 or 3 video games series all time for me.

The campaign has always been good, but there have also been a lot of QOL improvements that made the leveling experience quite a bit better and season 2's mechanics are much better than season 1, even though you probably haven't started it yet.

Your first 40 hours will be great (Campaign), and your next 40 might be great too (Season 2). The campaign, and maybe early end game even, is why the game scored decently and why feedback the first two days was more along the line of "oh yeah, there's something here." But then you get to the end game and it is (or was) a mess.

Put it all out of mind and enjoy it. I don't regret my purchase as I really enjoyed the campaign - I just regret upgrading to early release

And on that note...

I decided to be dumb and buy another game despite a poor release - I jumped into C:S2. And honestly, it runs fine enough so far on both my systems. Had to make some tweaks, but it's certainly playable. Have barely spent any time with it, but will report back as my city grows.

A couple nights ago I was going through PS+ and decided to install a bunch of random games. You know which one is kind of nice to play as a remedy to all the open world bloat? Far Cry 3. It's got all the stuff you hate about open worlds these days, but there's about 80% less. It makes the whole experience much more relaxing.

I just upgraded my bow and quiver a bit, crafted a bigger wallet, and then went hunting for bad guys in (comically) smaller outposts for a few hours. T'was enjoyable.

I'm half-joking and half serious. Just Cause 2-4 pretty much perfected the grappling/web mechanic and the worlds are 10x more fun and massively explorable than the same old, boring New York City map. I have heard a lot of good things about the last two Spiderman games though, so once I get my PS5 I'll probably check them out.

Played an hour of Spider-man 2 last night. Gorgeous game, and it moves really well. Glad this seems to be more in line with Spiderverse vibes and not Disney.
