Tim Rogers is great.

Yes, and it needs some work. The showdown and racing series are pretty good, but the free roam is puzzling in many respects.

Hunting and fishing are the most lucrative activities, there's no poker or other gambling with in game currency, there's griefer issues but no bounty system, the posse match making is pointless, and the world feels less populated and alive compared to the campaign.

I don't have a huge problem with the grind based economy, but there isn't enough content to support it right now.

I stopped playing after a couple days. Economy and lack of stuff to do being the reason.

Yeah, that sounds about what I expected. GTA Online started similarly before becoming a genuinely fun experience with friends.

God, his Dragon Quest 11 review was PAINFUL.

Why do people love that so much? I don't consume a ton of videogame content but watched some of that review and was pretty horrified lol.

With all of this said, their text review of RDR2 (from Kirk Hamilton) is masterful. It read almost like prose. I never watched their video review/don't know if they had one, but the text version was great. I don't visit Kotaku for reviews super often, so I'm not sure if their text and videos are just that far split, or if maybe just this one review was great.

For reviews, I follow ACG on YouTube (literally the best and it's not close) and then I usually go to Polygon. For Switch, I add in NintendoLife (which is good-not-great) and sometimes a place like Switch Force or another similar blog/channel.

I think Kotaku is almost universally wonderful. It's just Tim Rogers that's mind bafflingly bad. That he's their video guy is a stain on a wonderful site.

So for video reviews/guides I go to IGN, tips/reviews I go to Kotaku, and extra opinions/essays I head to Polygon.

Haha this is exactly what I do, I also look at Metacritic and Gamerankings for composite rankings. But man, I used to frequent the IGN forums way back in the day all the time.

I despise IGN at this point. They just put in so little effort compared to so many other great sources. I get so little out of their reviews, and their guides lack compared to wikias.

I used to be on IGN all the time, too. I had 25,000+ on their forums, mostly on the basketball board which I modded for about 2 years. But this place was so much better. IGN's basketball forum was like the GB but with more pre-teens.

I like IGN video reviews most because they're concise. I consider it a feature, not a bug. I don't have time for unprofessional lengthy reviews. I like well edited vids that get to the good, the bad, and the conclusion. Mostly I'm just there to see how it plays and I don't need 20-30 minutes to form a conclusion. Then I supplement that video review with Kotaku and Polygon if I'm still on the fence (I'm usually not).

Ah, yeah, that's fair. Different purpose and audience I'd suppose. I like the 10-15 minute reviews that go into more detail, and I usually treat them as one-stop-shop. If ACG makes a review for a game, that's basically all I need to make my decision.

Watching some twitch Smash screens and I think I'm gonna buy my first Smash title. Looks like a lot of fun.

Haven't bought a Smash since the original on N64 for fear of it not living up to my expectations. I will never forget playing Smash in college and almost physically fighting roommates over it. Such an awesome game.

I've never played Smash before, but the reviews do have me intrigued. I just don't know if it'll be fun without a ton of friends buying it, too.

You get a $10 Prime Credit if you pre-order it on Amazon.

I just said "**** it" and pulled the trigger.

Just saw that. I’d like to order through Amazon but the delivery date would be 12/11...I’m leaning towards picking it up locally during lunch tomorrow.

That's my biggest qualm. I just don't have enough friends with the Switch and Smash is all about the multiplayer. I'll still get it though because I have a problem with buying games.

That being said, if anyone here would ever want to play I'll drop my Friend Code in here when I get home. I have a whopping 3 friends so far.

Not a bad idea. I just ordered a digital copy because I feel like it'll be one of those games I'll always want to be able to access on my Switch.
