Huh, I actually think the mid-season tournament is the worst idea.

Big yes to these proposed changes. Fewer games especially.

The mid-season tournament idea is dumb and just another example of the NBA trying to fix something that doesn't need fixing while ignoring other issues that actually do.

Re: ATL - Melo to Portland
Can’t see anyone caring about a mid-season tournament.
Let’s say the Bucks are one of the 8 teams that get into the tournament based on how they played during the first few months of the season. If the tournament is extra games that don’t mean anything to their record, I’d rather have them lose right away and get an extra 3-4 days rest instead of playing 3 extra games that won’t earn them anything beyond a very tiny amount of bragging rights.

Just shorten the damn season. Unfortunately that won't happen without making up the revenue. The tournament idea is terrible. So is playing from October to June.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

That’s why you do it with all 30 teams, have a big cash prize AND have home court in the playoffs on the line. Make it worth something otherwise it’s dumb.

Home court should be earned based on the whole season. Not from a gimmick.

I mean the NBA itself is already gimmicky compared to all other basketball played on earth with how they’ve morphed the rules offensively and with selective enforcement of things. But apparently a tournament is gimmicky?

Yeah. I imagine it’ll make sense from a financial sense for the league and I’ll maybe tune in but I won’t be pumped about it or anything. The other proposed changes are great though.

You're right. Let's give a cash prize to players already making millions and make the second half of the season meaningless by rewarding the winning team with home court for the playoffs. Think load management is bad now? Just wait! Key players would take weeks at a time off.

I actually like the mid-season tournament idea. But you need to lower the regular season games even more.Say down to something like 60+,so use the tournament to replace the all star game and get revenue from it.Fans can also see games that they wouldn't see before the finals, like Denver Bucks for example.

The mid-season tournament would most likely be pointless, which isn't great, but whatever. The semi-finals reseed is what would really grind my gears. I understand that folks get upset about imbalanced conferences, but allowing the conference structure to dictate everything up to the semis, and then reseeding, is asinine.

Apparently the pre-knockout games of the tourney will count as regular season games,so they arent that meaningless after all.
Is this idea that bad?I would love to see the Bucks slap Harden and the Rockets in the tournament finals for example. That sounds a lot better than playing the Cavs for the 4th time to me

People think the mid season tournament is a bad idea because they are literally imagining the current season schedule and number of games now with a jammed in tournament. If you do it right it’s infinitely better than the set up now.

Love that the solution for having so many games is for teams to possibly play even more games.
The in season tourny would need to have real meaning to it for people to care about and I'm not sure how the league does that.

I could live without the mid season tourney but if they insist then give the winner an auto playoff birth. Most years it would be moot since the team who wins would be a playoff team anyway but every once in a while it would be cool to see a team get hot and have a ton to play for in a champ game. Take a team like Portland this year, Dame could go supernova for a few games and steal it.

The NBA is so dumb. Nearly every single issue, from load management to tanking, is an inevitable byproduct of their policies. How can you blame teams for taking games off if it makes the team better? Would baseball complain about Max Scherzer not pitching every 4 days like guys used to? Would the NFL complain about the best athletes not playing on both sides of the ball?
It's their long season, their convoluted soft cap, and their rookie salary scale, among other things, that cause the problems. They should just go with a hard cap and a 72-game season (3 games against each conference rival, 2 against non-conference rivals). I kind of like the 1 FT per foul idea too.

Determine who makes playoffs after 70 ish games. Take the non playoff teams and make them play a 3 game series for draft position. Eliminates tanking. Have the prospects attend games for entertainment value.
Then take the playoff teams and proceed as normal.
It should increase revenue over what they are proposing because you have two sets of postseasons.
