Definitely no chance a dude a generic name like Joe Smith would ever go #1 overall

But Nikoloz Tskitishvili? Top five pick, easy.

If Spurs drafted Tyty they would turn him into Brunson.

Anyone else catch the Donovan Mitchell nugget in the latest Bill Simmons podcast? Seems like everyone thinks he’s not long for Cleveland and he will not be extending in 2025.

I am very interested to see what comes of this. He seems like the perfect gunner to pair with Giannis.

Would you trade 3 firsts for 1 season of donovan mitchell? Without any guarentee he stays?

I'd want to know if he's truly open to the idea of staying. Or if it's just a one year stop until he could get to NY

Good question. If it's straight up Kawhi type where you know for sure that he's gone I think you probably hold off and wait for a better spot. If he's at least open minded and think if the fit with Giannis works and they get along that he'd stay then I'd do it.

Double checked and he's from NY. NYK just blew their load on Brunson and are likely capped after the other stuff they've done so likely can't just bounce there. BKN wouldn't be a bad young group for him to mash up with though. But if he wants a title there isn't a better spot than a 3-4 year run with Giannis, barring injury.

Are we sure Mitchell is good ? As talented as he is, there's a lot of evidence of his tunnel vision hurting his teams in the Playoffs. Is there any reason he wouldn't chuck as much here as he has in Utah and Cleveland?

He had an amazing bubble Playoffs but it seems increasingly an outlier. His three playoffs series after that:

2021: 32/4/5 (23.5 FGA per game) @ 60TS% (great individual stats but this is the year they flamed out to Kawhi-less LAC. Can't blame Mitchell for that though, he was great in the series)
2022: 25/4/6 (22 FGA per game) @ 50.5TS% (awful, last year Utah flame out)
2023: 23/5/7 (21 FGA per game) @ 52TS% (awful, flame out to NYK in first round)

His first two seasons in the Playoffs were very poor too, but the Bubble and 2021 were excellent. Willing to give him a walk in year one and two of the Playoffs due to his age.

I'd proceed with caution with Mitchell. I think he's a bit overrated.

I saw a Bucks guy in Kopp’s tonight saying something on the phone of, “but we think Dejounte is a lot more valuable than that” and “they haven’t circled back around yet, though” before heading outside to keep the convo more private. I have no idea what any of that really means, but take it for what you will.

You'd want him to be a lot better in certain situations but putting a guy with Mitchell's skill set next to Giannis would be pretty sweet. Honestly there might not be more than 2-3 better options from a perimeter scorer/creator pov. Specially someone that fits the timeline we're after.

Dejounte is a very common name, right behind Mohammad and Jalen worldwide.

He never said Murray, and I don’t know who for sure he was talking about. I just heard what I heard… in my younger days would’ve 100% followed him and eavesdropped, but I’m visiting family with my family and that just wasn’t going to happen.

Collin Sexton has high hopes for this season — including becoming more of a PG.

“I want to show that I’m back and healthy and 100 percent,” Sexton told The Athletic. “Every year for me is important, so I don’t put too much pressure on myself from that standpoint. I’m my biggest critic, so I’m always going to have a lot of expecations for myself. I’ve been watching a lot of film this summer. I want to be able to try and take over the point guard role. I want to show them that I can run the show. I’m getting back into the groove of things. I think this season is going to be fun.”

More than the rim pressure, Sexton is Utah’s best guard in transition. He’s capable of grabbing rebounds and getting end-to-end very quickly. That ability bends defenses. It puts them in difficult situations when attempting to match up in transition. That leads to mismatches, which leads to easy baskets.

But Sexton has value in less noticeable ways as well. He might be the most outwardly competitive player on the roster, which is saying something because Utah’s current roster is full of fiery competitors. He’s a fighter and he’s resilient, traits that can influence the rest of the roster.

What he has to prove is that he can run Hardy’s offense, that he can limit turnovers and that he can defend at an acceptable rate. His workouts this summer have been geared towards improving some of the flaws in his game. Most importantly, the biggest question for the Jazz comes at the position he wants to prove that he can play. And that question will be a direct correlation to whatever Utah’s overall ceiling proves to be.

There aren't any other Dejountes out there though. Maybe you misheard him?

In other news, the Bucks are sending Giannis a message about leaving. Kareem's # has been unretired & ROLO will take up #33 on his jersey this year.

So assuming next year when we have the 2029 and 2031 picks to trade? Yeah, I'd easily do that for Mitchell. Hard to think of a better guy to pair with Giannis who both perfectly fits his timeline (turns 27 in September) and has a proven playoff track record. And unlike Dame, his salary is low enough where it's possible you wouldn't have to part with either of Jrue or Khris. Not sure the Cavs just want picks and rotation guys though, so the value might be tricky.
