Yep done now. I wonder if the Bucks let him play the final game against Australia?

We need Canada to win AUS today & Spain in the next day and we have to win AUS like +15-20 points... The only way to advance is Canada going 3-0 and 3 teams tie on 1-2.

Fark I feel bad for Giannis. He’s battling hard out there and everyone around him is below G League level :(

He looked pretty gassed to me. They could t really rest him for long given he was their whole offence. Just not enough talent around Giannis.

frustrating how the greek role players all looked pretty good in qualifying

only to totally sh*t the bed in the actual tournament

papanikolaou is the only one other than giannis who should be proud of their effort

God dammit. I can’t believe I missed the game. I would have absolutely gotten up to watch, but I assumed 4pm rather than 4am. Clearly didn’t give that much thought.

Either way, pretty gutted for Giannis.

Calathes has shot 33% on threes over the past 3 seasons on pretty low volume. Walkup has shot 31% over that same span on moderate volume.

That’s just really poor from a starting backcourt. You’d hope they’d compensate by being able to beat their man off the bounce and get to the rim and finish, or be defensive game wreckers, but they certainly aren’t the former, and while solid defensively they aren’t the type that really swings things in the other direction.

Kind of amazing that’s the starting group.

So right now:
Canada 2-0 (+17)
Australia 1-1 (+2)
Spain 1-1 (-5)
Greece 0-2 (-14)

Last round:
Canada-Spain
Australia-Greece

So, if Canada beats Spain, Greece will need to beat Australia by 8 to advance, right?

Best Case Scenario for Greece:

We beat Australia with +9
Canada beats Spain

Canada has 3-0, All others 1-2

Australia -8 diff
Spain -6 maximum diff
Greece -5 (or better if we beat AUS with more than 9)

Greece second and direct qualification
In any other scenario if we beat Australia with less difference, or Spain beats Canada we have to hope for best two Group 3rds

Larentzakis was an efing clown lost alot of wide open 3s and Toliopoulos who is probably best shooter was forced to shoot alot of last seconds shots which he missed or got blocked. Spanoulis needs to draw some sets for our shooters. We didn't run anything for them. This is similar to what the Bucks do.

Draw some plays for your shooters should have been the antidote for Canada's near perfect perimeter defense.

Run some plays for AJ Green ... I mean Toliopoulos ... since trying to create off the dribble while Dort is guarding you is too hard for your shooters talent. They ain't Steph Curry, so put them on a position to succeed to make 3p shots which are capable of.

We have no microwave offense from our guards, we REALLY miss ... Sloukas & Tyler Dorsey

Those two where my starters playing with Giannis.

I know sloukas was hurt during the Olympic qualifying tournament, and didn’t think it would be right for him to take someone else’s spot, since he didn’t help the team get to where they are presently. That’s honorable even if he could really have helped.

Do you know why Dorsey isn’t on the team, though? I thought he did some really nice things for them in euro’s last time, and at times it felt like he was their only high volume outside threat. They could’ve really used him, too.

Dorsey is a complete one dimensional player. All he can do is shoot open jumpers. He has no other skills and he can't guard anyone. But he would be better than Walkup, who provides zero offense.

As far as Sloukas goes, he's the biggest ego player in Europe. Even Mike James seems like a modest ego player compared to him. The problem with Sloukas is that he's a huge cancer, and every team he has been on, eventually couldn't wait to get rid of him and his nonsense antics.

Right now he has a honeymoon phase with Panathinaikos, but that will quickly sour also. It's already soured long ago with Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, and the national team.

Too bad Greek NT keeps disrespecting the rarest players this country produces which are 3p shooters. I'd rather watch Kalaitzakis instead of Walkup and Toliopoulos instead of Calathes. Greek Basketball Heads are D/(&×€@)$ , stuck on 90s basketball. No wonder our NT sucks all these years .... it is not defenseball you $#%$@!@ ... its basketball and offense will always have more weight than defense. I will keep saying this a million more times till at least one more Greek fan gets his head off his @$$ with the old "defense, defense defense" mentality. I know the efing roster needs some defensive forces but Greek NT & Bucks can rarely score when they face a good defensive team. Greeks always overweight the defensive end of basketball more than actual shooting. Its just a shame, Greek kids are never coached how to shoot, and taught how to defend and how to execute X&Os all his life. Greek Basketball has a huge flaw, which we have never admitted neither adress it,. Teach Shooting Mechanics to the kids you @%#%@%@.

The "Greece has no shooters and that's why they lost every game they ever lose" thing is a talking point that originates from a certain Greek club team that has been on a mission to sabotage the national team for the last 16 years. The actual problem Greece has had is that a certain segment of the fan base wants to cause rifts within every national team roster, because of a club agenda.

If Spanoulis brought him on and had him start you don't think he'd be content for one tournament? Calathes and Walkup have been abysmal.

1) Cameroon obviously wasn't sniffing the Olympics with that roster (he's 30 and probably thinks this is his last shot at a medal)

But I especially don't understand French people booing him (there's some weird/ugly imperialist overtones here if you understand the history of France and Cameroon).

Cameroon actually had a good chance to make the Olympics. They were close to making it without Embiid and Siakam. So that's actually not a valid reason for what Embiid did.
