Players aren't going to intentionally play poorly so if teams stop being rewarded with better draft odds when they shut down their better players at the end of seasons, they will stop doing it.

Impossible to do, phantom injuries would plague the NBA

Meh, not impressed. What's so special about it? Sure it looks better than the old court but it's pretty blah

There doesn't have to be anything special about it, it just looks great.

What do you mean? My proposal is if a team doesn't play a player and the NBA determines that the player was healthy enough to play, that team drops (for example) 0.2% in their lottery odds. Phantom injuries would disappear very quickly.

I would consider "great" to be unique more so but to each their own. I like ours much more but I agree, it is a good looking court, just not special.

This change doesn't happen if that clown Hinkie didn't poke his chest out and blatantly tank for consecutive seasons.

I think it should just be the worst 14 teams get lottery balls, regardless of whether you made the playoffs. That would discourage tanking among those non-worst-3 teams.

This would help solve the East-West imbalance too. It's possible you could have 10 teams in the East (including the 7th and 8th playoff teams) and just 4 teams in the West in the lottery, for example.

Im sure their new lottery system will make it more plausible to get some combination of NY, LA, Chi, Mia, Phi, Bos in the top 5 every year.

Max is right though. This is a direct result of what Hinkie did. Even though I think Hinkie did the right/logical thing.

Yea you can like what Hinkie did and still realize if he never went full tank mode, then this never happens.

Is Hinkie at fault? Yes. Did Hinkie do anything wrong? No. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

I think that's the point, what Hinkie did was totally legal and it worked, but most fans, owners, players, front office execs, did not appreciate it. Therefore they are changing the rules to try and prevent anyone from doing that again.

I like this. I have long thought the 5-8 seeds should be included at some level in the lottery (maybe only eligible for picks 2-4). Top 4 seeds get home court advantage, seeds 5-8 get some lottery odds getting progressively better the worse you get all the way to the worst team in the league. Motivation to tank will be reduced if you still have a shot at a top pick and the playoffs.

The problem is that now we'll create worse disparities.

The original lotto had the 7 teams that didn't make the playoffs all get their cards tossed in that bowl. Equal odds. The outcry when the Knicks won was huge.

So the weighted the odds a bit. Then Orlando won back to back lottos in 92 with Shaw and 93 with Webber (traded for Penny). So they weighted the odds even more.

It was over for the rest of the league when they drafted Brian Shaw and Chris Webber in consecutive seasons. :D

I don't like it. I like the halfcourt logo but it's just too black. Need to splash some purple in there somewhere. I'm fine with it being heavily black, which is obviously what they're going for, just splash some purple in there somewhere

Nothing has worked yet.... there is a strong chance that it will but there's still an equally strong chance that the next time they matter will be with a completely different cast than what they have now.

I just want them to televise the process. Will it be boring? Yes, but at the end of he day secrecy is where all the problems with the rumors of fixing.

Or just do away with the lottery and the truly bad teams will get their stars thus creating parody. Or until they hit FA.

Acquiring the asset base, which is what they (Hinkie) set out to do worked already.
