You can also dismiss them and pick up new ones. That's important in blood moon where you can't let more than 16 die.

In other news...

This game just keeps getting more and more updates as time goes on.

Ah yeah, by die I meant dismiss. First thing I invest points into is the stagecoach so you always have a good supply of new recruits.

Wow. Marvel's Midnight Suns might have the ugliest character models I've seen since the 360 days.

Yeah, unless your goal is to beat it and never play again, in which case you can save scum.

A lot of people who are into those games come for the emergent storytelling. Your colonel rank XCOM soldier might die a valiant death making sure all the rookies escaped. That death might make your campaign flop because you’re so far in that relying on less skilled troops will make you outgunned, but it was its own unique story and moment. The adversity is part of the experience and can lead to crafty strategy to overcome it.

Was thinking about this after the NMS comment earlier about my fall gaming schedule. Here's what's on the docket - actually quite a lot in the next month, and I'm quite excited.

9/3 - New Last Epoch patch. One class is totally reworked and looks amazing; two other classes got some significant changes. A new chapter in the story, 30 new unique items, 12 new zones, 20 new enemies, and some end game changes. I am freaking stoked.

9/9 - Tales of Arise. I preordered for PS5 and am excited for my first foray into the series. It really looks great.

9/23 - D2R full release. **** insanely jacked for this.

10/8 - Metroid: Dread. Ok but how am I going to play all of this?

10/29 - Mario Party Superstars. More of a party game so won't take up much time of my core gaming time. SO is excited.

11/9 - Forza Horizon 5. Again with the how am I going to play all of this?

I’d skip NMS if you don’t already own it because I know you’ll pour hours into D2R and Dread. NMS will be there next year when there’s a lull in the release schedule.

Oh for sure - it's going to be awhile before I get to it. Maybe another update? Lol.

Re: Last Epoch, I really think at this point that, even in EA, it has surpassed fully live games like Grim Dawn now, and certainly some lessers like Torchlight 3 and Wolcen. It's so good. If anyone is looking for an ARPG fix, it's only $35 and it's money so well spent. And it just keeps getting better and better. The devs are amazing and super communicative.

https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/javelin-new-sentinel-skill-coming-in-sands-of-majasa-update-0-8-3/43481

Here is one of the new Sentinel skills - one of the classes which focuses some on melee, some on ranged, and some on void (an "element" part of the story/world) depending upon your specialization. This is the first intro of javelin into the game, and the skill tree for the skill sounds awesome. This totally changes what I planned to run this patch.

Have the graphics been improved? My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I remember you recommending this a while ago while it was in a much less polished early access state that looked rough. I had the ARPG itch a week or so ago and have been tempted by Grim Dawn on sale at $6 right now, but maybe I’ll wait for a Epoch to exit EA in the next year or so.

They are so greatly improved. Not that it's a AAA title, but they have been making steady passes at the classes to completely redo models and skill effects and have made huge progress. The Sentinel rework this patch, for example, has a totally new model and all new skills.

They've also recently re-done many textures and zones, completely rehauled the map, improved UI on all menus and inventory, etc. They've doubled in size the past year, and I believe are wanting to do the same in the next year. Their success in content and gameplay is really starting to pay off in other areas.

It really feels to me like a finished game I would pay full price for - which, as of now, is what they expect $35 to be after EA. But it started at $25, and has increased as its popularity boomed (helped by PoE struggling a bit with its non-hardcore base). So I really think now or soon are good times to get in.

For anyone looking for a CRPG fix, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is out today. It's a sequel to Kingmaker, which I have to say I could never quite get into - and also never have been able to put my finger on why - but it's a well-regarded game, and the sequel is supposed to be bringing many new features. Character creation looks bananas - there's like 2 dozen classes, each with 5 sub-classes, and a dozen races. Wild.

For reasons already stated, not on my list for this year, but definitely on my wish list for a future Steam sale.

This appeared on Preview on Game Pass :

The description seems quite ineresting to say the least :

We have imagined what would happen when we combine our favorite video games altogether.
Chop trees and mine stones as in Sandbox,
Explore the world as in Open-world,
Fight the hunger as in Survival,
Cultivate and harvest as in Farming,
Collect loots in dungeons as in Hack-and-slash,
Automate activities as in Factory management,
Hunt monsters and creatures as in Hunting action,
Cast magical spells as in Fantasy RPG.

Anyone tried it yet ?

Feel the same way about Kingmaker. I bought it not that long ago on a great sale, installed it then only have maybe 5hrs into it. It seems like a game that I'd love and I remember being kind of into it but I never stuck with it or felt the need to go back.

Never played it, but heard of and read-up on it and my take was that it was way too ambitious and large in scope for any developer, not to mention an indie studio, to actually pull off. Steam reviews are not great, either.

Anyone got any recommendations for a power bank capable of charging a gaming laptop?

Nope. They're all pretty much pick-up-and-play.

Picked up Mario Golf. It's fun but probably not worth $60. Don't really care though, I needed something new to pass the time and it's scratching my itch right now.

Can't wait for BF 2042 to be honest. Looks awesome.

I've had Last Epoch in my cart for awhile but couldn't remember why, you must've mentioned it before. I'll pick it up tonight and try to get to it tomorrow. Any tips for just starting?
