I'm rooting for our young guys, but the only one that I'm really confident in having a role is AJ Green. Any of the other guys taking a step forward and turning into a dependable rotation piece would be a nice surprise.

Yeah, that’d be nice. Is he really a vet min candidate?

After watching these highlights, i doubt it.

He was making 18 last season. Thats about right for him, although i could also see him getting bumped to 22.

He was well below replacement level last year. He's lucky to have a job. Doesn't matter, Toronto will eventually resign him, on a discount, because they're dumb. They don't know why they suck.

Horst can't afford more trigger happy one way players. That's for sure.

I keep watching this and feeling like any 20 year old who can do this and is driven has got to be able to find a niche eventually.

I agree mostly but also don’t see the harm in giving the young guys a shot until the deadline to see if any of them look playoff rotation worthy. If we kept everyone, you have Giannis, Dame, Khris, Brook, Bobby and Wright. You really only need to find one or two more guys for your playoff rotation. One of them being already on the roster would be pretty sweet and acquiring another at the deadline should be doable.

We’ll win plenty of regular season games by default of the top heavy nature of our roster. Let’s find the best top 8 we can for the playoffs and unless we’re trading them for proven vets now, 1 or 2 of these youngsters could be it and then we have the clarity of what’s missing.

Of course you still continue to explore all options with vet signings now and trade partners but I don’t think it’s the end of the world as much as some do if we see what we have in house for a few months.

I would definitely like to see them given a chance to play on a semi-consistent basis this year instead of getting a handful of minutes every 5 games or whatever. Ultimately they do still have plenty of chances to prove themselves in summer league, practice, G-League, etc., but I do think it would be nice to get a little more consistent NBA action this year and see if any of them blossom.

The Raps forum link I provided literally discussed his performance in that role, w/ the conclusion being he's decent at it.

Bease wasn't ever considered that here, & his failings go beyond just covering a tough guy. He gets disoriented where his man is off ball while he's looking at the action. And tools-wise, he's not as good of an athlete.

On d, over smaller samples, 1 must defer to team fan eye test. They're catching a lot of things that lack context otherwise - who they're covering, what's being asked, their teammates, the stakes, etc. A lot of players stop playing d when games don't count.

There are some weird takes here lately that even include assertions like Bruce Brown's a sub-par defender & overall is ass. He's contributed positively to multiple contenders (1 champ) & does a lot well on the court. Some real over-thinking.

He may already be the best defender on the team, outside of Giannis when actually locked in these days.

He was able to check a pg in Pritchard who was giving everyone else on our team fits. While he can guard at least up to 4's. And isn't going to get destroyed on 5's in switches. Almost surely the most switchable defender.

And he can get on the pogo on the boards.

It's going to come down to whether his offense is functional at all to keep him on the court. He couldn't shoot at NBA game speed/pressure. Some signs elsewhere maybe he can. None that he can handle, which will always make him very flawed.

Trent would be ok, but I'd rather put the money elsewhere and give the minutes to AJG. He's ready.

My buddies are saying we signed Sam Dekker. I don’t see it anywhere.

Edit - never mind. They are dumb, and saw we worked him out.

Nothing says more about what kind of player Trent Jr is than the fact that this springy, long armed, 6'5" player doesn't even grab 3 rebounds a game. He's the opposite of his dad.

If we're aspiring to sign Gary Trent to be our starter then get ready to see a lot of 125+ ppg performances against us.

Horst better be cooking something up... This is getting sad.

Gary Trent Jr. would be perfectly fine getting through the regular season with potential to have a role in the playoffs. There will be a Pat Bev/Pj Tucker type trade available at some point and I’d imagine that’s when Beauchamp gets moved.

If Lillard can get Trent Jr and Ham can talk Taureen Prince to come on minimum contracts, I think the additions of Wright, Trent Jr, and Prince make for a much better roster than last year. I think they will need to attach a pick to Pat to move him, maybe Pat and a 2nd to the Blazers for Duop Reath? Gets them under the 2nd apron.
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

The thing that bothers me the most is Horst and Doc talking about a “core 6” group they’re very confident in. That would presumably include Pat Connaughton and that really pisses me off because of the blatantly obvious, he can’t be considered a core player anymore… Horst has 12 months to duck the apron, he might not be as hard pressed right now as we all assumed he would be. We might be running the Rodgers, Davante, Cobb version of the last dance with the championship core.

yeah horst has really f'd up by not taking one of those awesome obvious trades out there!

Maybe his problem is that there are just too many of them and he can't decide!

Who said Horst F'd up or had a boat load of offers waiting in his inbox? I've consistently said the opposite would happen.

What's "sad" is aspiring to sign Gary Trent to start at SG for a team with championship hopes.

the last time our top 3 guys were halfway healthy we won a title without even having our starting SG available

and Trent is probably better than 2020-21 DDV anyway

I still wouldn’t be surprised if we have a deal lined up, or agreed upon in principle if nothing else arises - like a standing trade of brook to nop once BI goes, assuming they don’t get Allen.

There’s still time, and presumably still some interested parties - nop, Lal, SAS, hou, mem, maybe orl

Okc being out is probably the biggest hit though.
