it's not safe to play without a vaccine and not worth the risk

also there's no way to put a remotely satisfying bow on this season, much better to cancel it and move on to whenever the next season can begin

A vaccine won’t be around for next season. So let’s say good bye to next season as well. In your view we possibly saw giannis play for the last time in a Bucks uniform. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t ever see this virus being eradicated, but if it is it will be years. Multiple years before that happens

Of course no one wants to cancel the season, just like no one wants this virus. They’re going to try to milk clicks & eyeballs by pedaling hope as long as they possibly can. The people at the very top know it’s not coming back.

Fan since 98ish, don't recall the exact start but it all started with crouching over to listen to Ted Davis on the radio. With that being said I'm alright with the season being cancelled. I got plans forming for August and don't feel like switching things up to watch some sports, different strokes for different folks but we are all fans on this board.

Maybe it's the 30th birthday on the horizon but camping with some good friends during the finals, if they happen, won't be changing as much as it pains me to think about missing us hoisting the lo'b.
Inadequate perception I reckon it's from the Valium

I find it hard to believe 100% of all players will be willing to risk playing knowing how easily this virus can spread. Imagine any player getting so sick it ends their career.

What happens when that generational superstar gets the virus and can’t play? Seems pretty selfish on your part.

To those who say cancel the season, are we also canceling next season to? A vaccine won't be ready until early next year at the earliest.

Besides it isn't selfish if the players want to do it. As long as the main stars on the top teams want to do it, the rest can be figured out

I can see the Bucks making the finals and then Giannis testing positive and having to sit.

It’s incredibly naive & selfish to think of this as limited to the wishes of players & owners. Potentially catastrophic & unnecessary risk for many people regardless of whatever “bubble systems” they come up with. The NBA knows this. It’s in their best interest to appear to be doing absolutely everything possible in an attempt to resume play before ultimately canceling.

Chuck, my employment is likely going to require me to start heading into urban metro locations and getting on airplanes within the next 30-60 days. Our garbageman regularly hauls out our stuff each week. The clerks at Sendiks stock the shelves daily. None of us make close to what an NBA player earns.

If they hole them all up at Disney in a controlled bubble for three months, they'll be at less risk than the rest of us above.

Paul, the irresponsibility/greed of your employers, essential workers continuing to work & the disparity of our incomes to NBA players are all irrelevant here. The unnecessary act of gathering multiple, large groups of people (& don't get it wrong, even a "bubble" system would be a huge undertaking with hundreds involved) will infect more people, who will infect more people & so on, as we've already seen.

Chuck, each team would have maybe 30 total. 17 players, 6 coaches, 7 trainers/other staff.

Times 30 teams and we're at 900. Add in 100 league officials, refs and camera people. Send them all to Disneyland (who would bring in 200 workers for food service and hotel work (and who are likely unemployed right now))

Everyone tested after arrival. Everyone then isolates for two weeks. Everyone then gets tested again.

Assume an all clear then team workouts start for another two weeks. Then you test again. Then you start play to finish the regular season (three weeks). Test once again. Start the playoffs. It would be perhaps the safest environment in the US to be in. I'd gladly volunteer to work there for the three month stint.

Testing would need to happen far more frequently than that, assuming everyone isn't held captive in Disneyland (even though we have two players that would voluntarily do that). Dudes will want to go out and do stuff, meaning more tests, meaning more potential public backlash over test wastefulness. I think they are waiting and waiting for tests to be more readily available in all major cities before they roll out a plan featuring thousands of tests just to maintain a safe sports ball tournament.

Love this from Woj earlier:

1:45 PM CT
Adrian Wojnarowski

The National Basketball Players Association started polling its membership Tuesday about how individuals stand on a return to play this season, sources told ESPN.

NBPA regional representatives -- including Tim McCormick and Frank Brickowski -- were among the union officials polling players with a yes or no question on their current desire to return to play this season amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to sources.

Those officials told players that their individual responses and identities would be kept confidential within the NBPA, sources said.

For those that don't remember, Frank Brickowski is a former Bucks legend. For awhile he lived on a ranch in Montana (not Herb's) with Charlie Sheen. They got busted once when they tried to have a bunch of pot mailed to them via UPS.
