Damn, that looks good. Might have to.

It's great - you both should. My only word of warning is that it's still EA obviously, and will be until sometime in 2022 (possibly 23, but I doubt it). That said, it's quite polished at this point. EA here doesn't mean bugs, and moreso means that they're balancing skills and classes, finishing story content, continuing to add end game content, etc. But I've already put in almost 200 hours, and I want to play more each patch.

Some new player thoughts:

This is, IMO, the most "like Diablo 2" modern ARPG there is. It is more complex than D3, (significantly) less complex than POE, and more generally modernized than Grim Dawn. Just an idea of what to expect complexity wise, and thus gameplay for the genre.

Don't follow a build guide - you can wing it. You will find some things are better than others, but swapping out skills is possible without being completely trivial, and you have lots of room to play around with things in the early game. The game is very clear and consistent in how skills are worded, scale, etc. and there is an extremely good in-game guide.

Crafting can be done early, and you should feel like you can. I would suggest holding off until you get a sense of which runes (it'll make sense once you play) are most common and which are rarer, and to save the rarer ones until you're later in the story or end game. But basic runes will be plentiful, and these include ones like stats (Str, Int, etc), health, mana, and most resistances.

There is no multiplayer right now. It's coming before full release, but what that means right now is that you can't play with others or trade. You do, however, have a shared stash amongst your characters, so you can share items with yourself.

At launch, all of your EA characters will move to offline only, as will your stash. This is to ensure there's a clean slate for the online community. But the expectation is that you don't "lose" anything from your account.

Happy to answer any questions you guys may have!

So I haven't been able to figure out crafting, I feel like I have all the necessary components but haven't been able to craft anything. I open the menu, place my staff in the center box, and then attempt to add a modifier (shard) but I'm unable to. Do I need 5 of one shard to modify an item?

The game holds ur hand, it'll let you know what to do but basically there are I think 3 end game outcomes. It's a giant sandbox until you decide you want to follow the stories.

Code: Select all

o- - -  \o          __|
   o/   /|          vv`\
  /|     |              |

Hmm. No, you can craft with just a single shard. So it doesn't even let you select a shard?

Is the item you're trying to craft on already full of affixes (2 prefix, 2 suffix)? If that's the case, you can't add any more modifiers, and you'd only be able to add shards for modifiers already on the item. You can click the up arrow next to the affixes that show-up once you place the item in the crafting window and it will auto-select it for you.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe you haven't gotten the crafting quest completed yet? I think it's located in the Armoury, IIRC.

Are Druids any good? Looks like they are melee based, I normally play ranged/healer but I also normally love Druids.

As far as good goes, honestly, the classes are reasonably balanced. It's the skills within the classes that aren't necessarily super balanced right now (not that it's ever all-equal). But yes, the Primalist (Druid) is quite strong. I just don't have much experience with it so can't advise super well.

If you're interested in seeing what's meta without directly looking at or following build guides (which I'd recommend not following for your first char, at least - experiment blindly!), the ladder can be helpful for that.

https://lastepoch.com/ladder

ETA: It looks like Druid is the dominant Primalist specialty.

Just got home for the Brewers game so not sure I'll get any time in tonight, kinda drunk. I think the staff I had might have already had too many modifiers.

It feels like I’m getting a decent amount of unique item drops but they really don’t seem much better than some of the gold items I get; or the unique items just don’t have the affixes that strengthen my build that much.

The uniques you get during leveling are mostly just for leveling, and most are only applicable for some builds. Nothing drops accustomed to your character, so you have a chance to get anything whether it is helpful for you or not. Rares are generally more useful, with some exceptions - here are some that come to mind looking at my stash:

Morningfrost boots. 18% move speed is good for all.
The Falcon body armor. 15% move speed if you've hit recently, also good for all.
Calamity helmet. Big boost to fire damage and ignite chance. Good for many fire builds.
Invokers set items, rings and amulet. These are good for casters of any kind.

It is! There comes a point in the story - it's generally around level 30 or so that you get there. It's unmissable. You can respec passives for cheap after, so fear not about anything you want to change.

One other thing, I made a custom loot filter to hide normal items. Any other loot filter conditions you recommend?

Oh good question. The loot filter system is amazing because of how accessible it is, compared to games like PoE. That said, I still find it easiest to download a baseline as a starting point then modifying as you see fit as you progress your character.

https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/0-8-3-heavyz-casual-loot-filters-for-all-classes-v2-4/25176

This person does a great job giving a baseline filter for each class. If you open the pastebin links, then scroll all the way to the bottom, there's a box you can select all from, copy, and then on the loot filter screen you can paste your clipboard contents to import.

From there, I tend to do a couple things:

1. Add a new rule to recolor all exalted items purple (or whatever). I make this the #1 rule. You won't run into any until endgame, but I pick all of them up and always want to know what drops to see what it is. Exalted items are rare, but with affixes that can only drop - not be crafted (tier 6 or 7).
2. Add a new rule to recolor all affixes for my build to green (or whatever). I go through all of the affixes and select what I need for my build. I usually won't do this until around level 40 or whenever I start to get a feel for what I'm going to need. This makes it easier to see when an item drops that has a much higher likelihood of being helpful for your specific build. In endgame, I'll add to the filter to say I want at least x level of tiers, so it doesn't highlight T1 for example.
3. You'll probably get to a point where you don't care about normal idols, so I always add a rule to hide them. The first 4 options under the Idols dropdown are normal (non-class specific). Don't do this for a while, though - you do want some of them, you just can't possibly need or use them all.

Now that I've done this several times, I tend to copy my own filters and modify from there, as opposed to downloading new ones. It takes less time the more you play. That said, I still think it's not more than 5-10 minutes to get it going the first time.

Have my necromancer up to level 37 and now I'm like "hmm, I wonder what other characters are like". Tempted to start a new one to get a different taste.

As opposed to D3, there's no benefit on a second run-through to accelerate you through, so no incentive to see it through if you'd have more fun starting over.

I must be paying for this somehow, but I downloaded the SNES app onto the Switch tonight and played around with some of their offerings. There's a lot of trash, but having A Link to the Past, Super Tennis, Super Punchout, and Super Metroid is great.

It's $20 anually for their NES and SNES service, plus cloud saves.

SNES is really solid. IIRC, they also have Ghouls n Ghosts, and of course the DK games which is the only reason I subscribed.
