Right? You can litteraly pick some nits on nearly every title run.

Now I should note the ONE asterisk I will acknowledge is the Astros. Getting caught blatantly cheating is a legit reason to attach one.

I think my previous post got deleted somehow.

1. The backlash from testing with the Jazz/Thunder was that they literally used up 40% of the states tests. No one is going to care if they states are capable of testing 100ks and not at capacity. WI is already at 15k daily. Hopefully by August we will have at home tests available for $20.

2. Bucks played 23 games in 44 days between November and December. That is with cross country travel and at least 11 flights during that stretch. The playoffs would be be in one-site and the guys wouldn't even have to commute to the games. Cut first two rounds down to best of 5 and the max anyone is going to play 24 with most likely 21 games. No reason you couldn't make the playoffs 30-40 days. It's not like they will be in Miami over a weekend, they will be isolated in one spot with no clubs* open and playoff games basically every day.

*IF clubs are open, its kind of a mute point talking about 30 guys playing in a quarantined gym.

Even if they quarantine for 2 months, who cares? The players won't care. As teams are eliminated they leave. I don't think Giannis, or any other Buck, will gripe about being isolated while they finish the season. Then they can figure things out for a December or January through August season (which I would love to be a permanent change).

What sucks is even if the Bucks win in this weird scenario you'll still have the talking heads idiots and Raps/Celts fan hammering how 'you still have to win a real one", blah blah. Don't get me wrong, I'll still take it. And the positive side is if we lose, we can have the easy cop out of well we'll see next year with a normal season(hopefully).

I do think the Vegas type one location scenarios could work. I' think they'd be allowed to "isolate" with a small group of family/friends or whatever too. Something like each player gets 5 people with him, or whatever number they come up with. That eliminates the not being able to see the kids issue. IDK, one thing they could do is Eastern Conf in Orlando and Western in Vegas. Then finals probably in Vegas. Probably not worth the hassle of coordinating two locations and all though, and it would give the West a bit of an advantage in the finals.

It really depends what they mean by quarantine and timing. Will they literally be locked in Disney World? Would be really hard to deal with families and not seeing them for 2 months, especially if school has started forcing them to leave the resort. I get these guys are gone most of the season but some actually would like to see their families. If we are at a point where people can come and go (with testing and mini-quarantine before going back in) it would be more bearable.

The Xmas-August season will be awesome.

How many of you would quarantine to be able watch the playoffs live? No way my wife would allow it but I would at least be willing to be in the dog-house to bring it up.

I couldn't but it wouldn't be too different from going on a cruise.

Wouldn't it be our luck as Bucks fans to finally win a title and not be able to have anyone be there live or celebrate with a parade?
We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees.

I don't see why they would have to be more quarantined than UFC fighters, were they not allowed to see their families or even stay in a single location? No air travel I think eliminates most of their risk, they're not going to have get their own food and its not like resturants/bars/script clubs are open anyways. I don't think the logistics are that big of an issue, the main roadblock I think is what happens if somebody does test positive and they + whoever they've come in contact with are supposed sit out in quarantine. Daily testing or even more I think will go a long way at mitigating the risks but you might lose some guys, I imagine the tests would come from private vendors instead of the whatever stockpile the states have too so its not like if these guys get tested somebody that might need it more isn't.

The NBA finagling the requisite tests to the play unnecessary games while the rest of the country continues to suffocate to death by the thousands would be reprehensible.

I don't get the asterisk talk. If we win the championship, it should count just like every other one. It's a global pandemic, so everyone is in the same boat, playing by the same circumstances.

Do you really think there will be a shortage of tests in August?

What other unnecessary things would be open in August? Retail shops are open now, I'll probably be working in an office at that point, bars will probably be open in some form, etc it would honestly be weird if the NBA couldn't pull together a non-fan tourney. Hell, there is probably more damage done at the Lowe's in Wauwatosa without masks requirement and tons of people going in and out. (And those aren't plumbers working on an emergency project)

If they wanted to open up now? Yeah, f-them. But if are below 1k new cases daily as a nation and we have an abundance of tests, why not?

I don't know if it's a hot take, but the Astros' title shouldn't have an asterisk, it should be vacated.

But yeah agreed, every title requires a ton of breaks and we have a fascination with putting a lot more weight on the immediate kind (injuries) than the distal kind (drafting Giannis at 15 overall).

Ι guess different definitions of an asterisk.
An asterisk is just a footnote, an explanation or additional info, not necessarily something that indicates reduced value.
You definitely need a footnote to explain it was a highly irregular season due to Covid but yeah, it was still equal playing field for all.

Some teams and players selected to half arse the regular season with resting etc? Well too bad for them, they shouldn't have, the League told them multiple times not to. Now all we have is the regular season record therefore we have to go by that :D

But seriously I don't know how we can simply ignore that 2/3 of the total season games have actually been played, and some of the most important awards (MVP/ROTY/COTY/DPOY/All NBA teams/All Stars etc) have been determined already. So all that counts for nothing because Kawhi said he only laces them up in May? I don't think so. If the season ends right now, we have a champion.

You can't tell me with a straight face that many NBA players would be willing to be away from their families for two months to play basketball in a locked down basketball compound.
