He was weirdly effective in SL despite looking incredibly lazy and unmotivated to me. He's just so god damn long.

He’s a pretty good shot blocker. Can’t really do anything else. Good for spot minutes maybe, wouldn’t trust him in the post season.

It's a camp deal. I'm not sure which G League club has his returning rights, but if the Remix do, I would expect the Herd to trade for them. Post-season minutes are not on the table.

Just a general comment, but it was weird to have a Bucks team so poor on defence. It's been a long time, with Skiles, Jrue, Sanders and Bogut since we've had a decent team that wasn't built on D.

Obviously the Golden/Maggette era does not count as a decent team.

We've generally had teams using D as the cornerstone of their identity in recent years.

GTJ, Wright and Prince were targeted (per Horst) because they can defend multiple positions, are age-appropriate, size-appropriate, and can generate turnovers in addition to what they bring offensively.

Wright and Prince are pretty proven on that end. Horst says RE GTJ “he has a defensive component to his game that I think we can help flourish and grow more in our system. We’ve been able to do that with players, not only grow players offensively, but grow them defensively.”

Dame being in shape and committed will help too not to mention Doc (now flanked with Ham) having a training camp to implement his defensive system. And who knows maybe Ajax or another young guy contributes on that end.

I definitely would still like to acquire an impact defender somehow. But this appears to be the plan in lieu of that.

Thinking about impact defenders the Bucks might secretly be targeting for an all in trade.

Tari Eason comes to mind.

It’d take a lot to get him from Houston. Definitely an Udoku kind of guy who’s a fit even though he’s behind Jabari Smith Jr. But they might not value him as a long term starter and he had injury issues last year at least too.

Would we trade Bobby + our 2031 first for Eason?

Playing with trade scenarios: Bucks send those assets to the Warriors who send Kuminga to Houston, Looney to Bucks, and a Rockets pick of some kind + AJ Griffin to the Warriors to make the numbers work.

One thing we've been missing with Dame and Giannis garnering so much attention everytime down some well timed back cuts/paint flashes by someone quick, athletic and/or sneaky. We still might not have that.. just a lot of KMs and Bobby's calling for the ball whilst not moving.. we might still need one more trade to fix us in that way.

You know the reason everyone stands still when Giannis has the ball is because that's what Giannis wants, right?

Bontemps said the Bucks had only two players on the entire team who dunked more than 25 times. Giannis led league with 250 and Lopez had 42. No one else had 25.

And then noted Dame dunked 8 times and Pat only 3.

Global point was Bucks have no athleticism and are old.

No athleticism besides the guy who lead the league in dunks.

Like it or not, they did go out and get younger prospects whose primary appeal is sheer athleticism in AJJ, Livingston, Johnson and Smith the last coupla years. Coulda gone with older more seasoned options and for their pointed efforts the Bucks FO got largely pilloried for selecting raw young guys who aren't *guaranteed* to mature into 'something'.

Replacing Lopez with someone who can move seems obvious. Obviously not moving Khris because the Bucks are awesome when he plays and he's a playoff assassin.

Stinks that he'll be playing center for the Herd, as he's awful even in the G League.

Badji should really be the last two-way guy instead of Pasecniks. Only times the SL team looked even somewhat competent was when he was on the floor cleaning up at the rim. Dude's only 21 and you can at least see the outline of an NBA player.

Bill Simmons wants Giannis to be traded so badly. Sheesh. He's kinda obsessed with it.

Absolutely. He wasn't great in SL as a whole but considering his size, athleticism, & age he's the exact type of player we should bring in on a 2way and try to develop

He's the one guy who scares the **** out of him. He's said it outright, maybe in those exact words. He wants him out of the East.

It’s a mix of that and we’re just kind of a boring team to be honest. Boston, the Lakers and Denver are in the same boat. We made the big splash last year with Dame and a new coach, but the Bucks play best when they play like the Bucks of old. Maybe year 2 of Dame will change that, but the declining health/effectiveness of Khris and Brook pigeon holes them a bit. Golden State was boring and stagnant and managed to beat Boston in the Finals with a spark from Wiggins and Pool. Maybe Dame and Trent can be those guys for us, but this conference is brutal.

I think 2025-2026 will bring big changes to this team.

Here’s the link the Simmons/Lowe pod for those who haven’t heard it.

https://www.theringer.com/the-bill-simmons-podcast/2024/9/18/24247555/biggest-2024-25-nba-concerns-zach-lowe

They spent the first 15 minutes of the show discussing Milwaukee, with Lowe saying that most around the league believe the Bucks ship has sailed. Players too old around Giannis, Dame not the same, Middleton as Lt. Dan.

Nothing new to anyone on this board. The team has to have a rejuvenation this season or the future won’t be very good.
