Boston fan here. Sadly, you're not wrong about this.

I think Spo coaches circles around both of them.

And Spo is the closest coach to ever losing a 3-0 lead…

It might not work out, but I would be nervous.

They have no idea what we've looked like under Griff. They just see the record and don't realize how much of a clustercuss it's been.

Ron Swanson wrote:Good point that our clutch stats and record is probably the perfect antidote for Doc's biggest playoff flaw. He certainly deserves blame for being part of those up 3-1 or 3-2 collapses, but just look at Harden and Embiid last year in the last two games vs. Boston:

Harden:

13/9/7 on 36% TS and 5 turnovers
9/7/6 on 38% TS and 5 turnovers

Embiid:

26/10/1 on 57% TS with 4 turnovers
15/8/1 on 36% TS with 4 turnovers

Brutal

I still can't believe that Embiid & Harden combined for 24 points, on a combined 8-29 (27%) from the field in game 7 vs Boston last season. That was one of the more bizarre things I have ever seen, you'd think that with two MVP level players, at least one of them would have maybe, sort of had a decent game in a game 7.

I won't even get into Ben Simmons' game 7 in 2021.

I am not saying everyone has to love the Doc Rivers hire, but you have to least throw a grain of salt in there with Doc's close-out record.

I said it somewhere yesterday, but people can say what they want about the Clippers teams and I won't counterpoint at all. But those Philly rosters he dealt with were a mess. Between those two sucking in the post season, everything having to do with Ben Simmons, Harden/Morey drama. That team was a **** soap opera. There's no way someone can objectively look at everything that went on and be like 'Oh yeah, Doc is totally why they didn't win a ring'.

Horst has done some incredible moves in his tenure with the Bucks. He even brought us a title. I don't even want to rattle off the things he's done well but it's a great list. Including helping us win a title and all. Amazing anyone could think he was a botched hire.

This. Other teams fans and the media are for the most part not watching every Bucks game closely like some of us here are. They see the record and think “Grief must have been fired for something other than performance”.

They also buy the narrative that coaches somehow outweigh talent. So they place losing a 3-2 lead against the Celtics last season solely on Doc while ignoring how badly his two best players played, that the Celtics easily had more overall talent than the Sixers, and that the Heat almost lost a 3-0 lead to the very same Celtics (but Spo is somehow a great coach when he was almost the first coach to ever lose a 3-0 lead and hasn’t won a title with Prime LeBron and two other stars).

It'll be funny when Embiid once again no-shows in the playoffs and everyone will just roll out the excuses for Nurse.

He does some good, he does some bad, and its a what have you done for me lately business. If it wasn't then Budenholzer would still be here too. Once we knew the circumstances with Bud I wasn't comfortable firing him and the only reason I was ever optimistic about it potentially was thinking Nick Nurse would be the perfect coach, I was mad they were even interviewing Griffin(or Mark Jackson, or Monty Williams, etc) so I feel fairly vindicated that I was right all along the the way. Hiring Griffin was that bad of a decision, having to fire a coach after 30 games is a disaster for the franchise no matter how you spin it. Getting Dame and Giannis to resign are the only things that are saving his job IMO. Like you'd have to be nuts letting this guy hire another coach if Doc this work out, this is his ass on the line.

Not as a knock... let him have the ball the whole time and punish 2nd units

I do kind of like the idea, but I also don't give two **** about who starts. Matters way more what your line up looks like in crunch time, everything else is fairly irrelevant to me. If this helps to better stagger the minutes of Giannis, Midds, Dame, Lopez, Portis, etc., then it is fine with me.

If Doc would start AJJ like most of us hoped at the start... knowing what we know now Malik is very efficient, doesn't turn the ball over, doesn't need the ball, doesn't dribble much, much higher TS% than KM, much higher 3pt % than KM. Malik is EXACTLY the type of safety net that Dame and Giannis need at the arc and doesn't need to fiddle to get himself hot.

So that's why I would recommend KM as the 6th man for he may need to fiddle and maybe take some turnovers to get himself rolling... then hopefully he's on fire and can close the game by adding in a big 3 pt shot towards the end like last game.

Celtics have one title in 38 years. Three quarters of the way to the Bucks drought. Doc brought them that only title beating the Lakers, Kobe, and Phil in the process and somehow they all despise Doc and say he’s the worst coach ever. I just don’t get it.

Bud had his flaws but I’ll always be grateful for the title he helped them win. Not to mention, the culture he put in place and the massive regular season success.

But you see, Doc won a championship with some really good players on his team which is actually a bad thing. We should really be targeting one of the numerous available coaches that have won championships with zero good players on the roster.

Doc is the Mike McCarthy of NBA coaches, to use your yardstick.

That said, we needed Mike McCarthy here. Badly.

Hey all, been a while since I last posted but I can't resist just lurking anymore!

If Doc is McCarthy, Griffin is definitely Jim Tomsula! Anyone remember him?

humanrefutation wrote:Doc is not a good coach and if my choices were Doc or Bud, I'm taking Bud every single time.

But the one thing that gives me hope is that Doc is joining a team with little drama and a lot of veteran talent. This isn't the young Sixers with the Embiid/Simmons mess and isn't LA with Chris Paul's negativity and Blake Griffin going Hollywood. This seems closer to what he had in Boston - a veteran laden, professional team with lots of experience that just needed a unifying figure - someone to bring an "ubuntu" mentality to the team. He's more credible than Griff in that respect, without question. And that's a good thing right now, because the vibes surrounding this team are awful.

From that perspective, I'm hopeful that he'll have a positive impact on the roster as a whole. I am also hopeful that he'll be able to reign in some of Giannis's worst tendencies and convince the team to play better together.

However, I am curious to see how Giannis - in particular - reacts to Doc's penchant for public criticism. Because Giannis has not faced that since J-Kidd.
He could really benefit from some criticism.imo
