FTR, I hated the Kidd hire from the get-go. 8-)

Me too. I was a Larry Drew backer all the way.

Everyone forgets that Larry Drew brought with him the intel that the Hawks would absolutely select Giannis right after the Bucks pick. Then he went out and put forth an epic tank job to get them the second overall pick when everyone wanted to force Herb to tank while he wanted to chase the eighth seed. Larry Drew deserves a statue out from of Fiserv. Preferably of him looking confused and licking his lips.

I love how every Bucks GM either needs to be the dumbest **** dude alive, or the guy that brought us a championship with his savvy transaction skills. How about neither? Hammond and Horst are/were pretty damn similar to me and always will be. Both guys had their clear strengths and weaknesses.

Hammond built the foundation with two pretty incredible acquisitions considering the meager resources he used (Giannis with the 15th pick in a trash draft, Khris as a throw-in with the Jennings trade), and Horst finished the job by hitting a homerun the one time he was left to his own devices to hire the coach (Bud), while getting Giannis to stay through his entire prime with aggressive trades that no one saw coming (Jrue, Dame).

Hammond selling Kohl in selecting Giannis is an all time great GM move. He also got lucky that Jennings didn’t sign the extension and then Midds salary happened to be the perfect amount for that S&T. He was also bad at almost everything else except waiting by the phone. His willingness to take big swings in the draft was his best skill.

Horst seems to know the coach he SHOULD hire when allowed and is willing to take big swings on trades. He’s also been objectively awful at drafting and hangs on to assets too long.

At least neither of them is Nico Harrison.

I care way more about Horst not finding a legitimate rotation guy or not just straight up trading the 1st round picks that he whiffed on. That, not paying PJ which snow-balled into us trading Donte for the corpse of Serge, and him refusing to tweak/re-calibrate the roster in the 16-months since the Dame trade are his greatest sins. Yeah yeah, "it takes two to tango" and all that. But he absolutely can't sit on his hands this deadline or just pay to dump Pat's contract and that's it. Have a vision for something other than paying a premium for the lowest hanging-fruit type players/assets.

The Grayson trade was a big win, just disappointing he was in the Dame trade instead of Pat.

Grayson caught a ton of flack for the Boston series (because he was forced into a much larger role due to Middleton being out), but he is a damn good role player. He earned his extension with Phoenix.

all gms have warts over a 10 year career. but personally i think weve been very blessed with his work overall

Giannis is who brought a championship to Milwaukee. Horst had nothing to do with him or Middleton. Praise to John Hammond.

It’s been one debacle after another here for years now, no more excuses.

So jrue had nothing to do with the bucks chip really that huge steal in game 5.Horst had nothing to do with that

My biggest bone to pick with Horst has been his abominable record at identifying young talent, especially
in the draft. It's hard for me to get past that when I'm evaluating his tenure. Any average GM can trade a boatload of picks for established veterans. It takes a savvy GM to unearth diamonds in the rough through the draft or via savvy trades or G-League development, and Horst has absolutely sucked at it. That's why we're stuck where we are.

Then do another trade for a big.

Also Lakers could just trade for KD. Hach, Finny, Kleuber and Reaves works.

You think the Lakers would trade Reaves who's currently breaking out for the corpse of Brook Lopez?

lmao.

Losing Giannis will bring about the dark ages for this franchise with what will be left, I don’t think Luka or someone equivalent will be walking thru that door if that horrible thing comes to pass either. Def agree we need somebody with a better eye for young talent.

I think what flipped me the most tho was hiring Griffin. I was supportive of moving on from Budenholzer thinking that Nick Nurse was a lock then we found out what happened to Bud’s brother. Hearing names Mark Jackson, Monty Williams, Doc Rivers, Adrian Griffin then broke my mind. After that I felt like Horst had to own it especially with the Dame trade, if this team can’t contend it’s systemic failure.

were all of the understanding griffin was giannis pick man. horst wanted atkinson lol

were literally in the pickle were in more to do with giannis talking out of both sides of his mouth about loyalty/winning than horst gm'ing and thats a fact

if giannis had just signed his extension and let horst do horst.....then for all we know wed still have jrue and the assets that went out with him with atkinson at the helm. i shudder at what that summer has done to us

Griffin still had to make the final grouping. Giannis picked amongst the candidates presented to him.

Of players available that aren't disgruntled Brandon Ingram kind of make sense. forward that can get their own shot, quick hands, getting better at defense every year (obviously a FA after this season) but open up a ton of salary moving forward and we can run Giannis at the 5. Buyout guys and lower profile moves to get a backup PG and C

whats crazy is virtully all of his picks have stuck tho. from where weve drafted they usually dont

where hes "failed" is taking **** draft position and hitting home runs

He’s also making a lot less money than some of the other candidates we’ve talked about, so we likely wouldn’t need to include Bobby to get him.

After the career Khris had here trading him for a past-his-prime Kuzma would just be sad.

atkinson/nurse/griffin

id say its reasonable to assume that if griffin was giannis guy then thats why he made the final grouping

either way...that summer giannis called the shots and other than getting his name on the extension its been a debacle ever since. for all time thats the way im going to remember it anyway
