Ha, that was one of those I was late on. Hated it for 29 years of my life, now I love it. Great crumbled on salads and stuffed in burgers and steaks.

I'm not big on fish in general. I don't actively dislike it or anything but given the option in a restaurant I would never choose to order it.

I have it on salads and as a dip at restaurants on occasion. I once ordered a bleu cheese burger thinking it would be good but man, I did not dig that. Not sure why.

Didn't start drinking coffee until last fall and now it's all I drink in the morning and has helped me quit drinking soda (other than when mixing with booze). I've forever had to give up chili, irritating everyone I know, because of a bad experience I had 2 years ago with the stomach flu that kicked in after eating a warm bowl or two.

Try this stuff.

It leaves my mouth with a kinda weird drymouth feeling though. My brother loves it though.

If you can tolerate diet, it's really not that bad for you. The "omg artificial sweetener is badddd" fear is so overblown. A few diet sodas even daily won't put you in any health risks.

:o

How many is a few?

Regular or diet if you drink even one soda a day it is adverse for your long term health.

The artificial sweetener argument is very valid in my opinion.

Stop drinking sodas (I know it's really hard) and you will see immediate benefits to your energy levels throughout the day, less headaches and better digestion.

At least that is how it helped me.

Diet sodas are better than regular sodas, but neither are desirable. In general sugar is bad news and I avoid all sodas. Water is the best and I'll mess with powerade zero or G2 gatorade if I really want something different. i used to drink Mt Dew way back in the day and I've never regretted giving it up forever.

It's supposed to be 70 today so I'm getting in some outdoor ball.

I drink a ton of soda, and while the caffeine is a huge reason, the sugar is what's killing me. I really want to stop. Something like 27 grams of sugar in one can of Mountain Dew. That's absurd. I've been able to cut soda out of my diet a few times, but I've always come back to it. Whenever I do, I notice not only the increase in energy levels but I always lose a bunch of weight too. Sugar really makes you fat. Would love to cut soda out completely, forever.

There are lots of studies that support that diet sodas are actually worse for you than regular sodas.

Your body can not process the aspartame and is better off processing real sugar.

Not only that, but there's a connection between the way things taste and the way your body prepares to process them. Strange but true. Artificial sweeteners gunk that up. The pieces don't fit. Basically, if you taste something sweet, your body gets ready to process sugar. When the sugar doesn't come, you get way more hungry than you'd have gotten.

I was one of those people that always hated coffee, but then I visited some friends for a long weekend last February. We went to Starbucks twice and I got what my friends got each time. It was mostly for hangover reasons, but I didn't think the coffee was that bad. Fast forward a year and I now own my own coffee/latte machine with about 4 different types of coffee in my kitchen right now. It does not take long to get hooked.

For most of law school I was an energy drink/soda drinker for my caffeine. Feels good to not have to drink that crap any more. I do have a 5 hour energy a few times a week (trying to give it up) when I am waking up at 4:00 AM to go for a long run before work. Nothing wakes you up faster than 5 hour energy, it works about 5 times faster than coffee. That is the only reason I occasionally use it.

I also used to drink whiskey diets all the time, over the last year I've switched to vodka waters. My friend turned me on to them and it makes a big difference. Instead of drinking a liter+ of diet soda, you are just drinking water.

Yea, there's no way a few or even one soda a day, any type, is good for you. I drink it about once a week (I like a diet coke when I go out to dinner, sue me :) ), but stopped buying it totally.

Oh, no doubt.

But I'm legitimately wondering the reasoning for this if everything I've learned suggests the best diet is more vegetables and fruits, some healthy fats and stay the **** away from breads and pasta:

Again, not a nutritionist. I don't know ****.

I think the simple answer is that you're supposed to be eating ONLY whole grains. Enriched and refined flour, which is the main ingredient in most breads and pastas, is not really in that food group at all. It's a simple carb that arguably belongs in the sweets group. Ditto white rice. Depends on the ratio of whole grain to non-whole grain in each product, of course.

Bottom of the pyramid should be called the complex carbs grain group, instead of just the grain group.

I feel like that's way more food than I eat in general. I'm sure a serving isn't exactly what I first imagine it, but when I think about eating 11 servings of pasta, I think about Man vs. Food.

Havent read through this whole thread, but have any of you juiced fruit and vegetables before? I did a 6 day juice fast cleanse and it was very rewarding. Now I will make juices to replace a meal throughout the day

Oh I know this, but the sugar content in regular soda is crazy and I don't feel either are good for you. However, if I'm going to drink 4 cans of regular soda or 4 cans of diet soda, I'm going with the diet to avoid sugar. Obesity is a real consequence of all the sugar in our diets and and it can be argued that sugar has reached dangerous levels.

I'm a fan of sucralose over aspartame as well, but again I really only go with water or zero/low sugar sports drinks. I don't advocate for any sodas, diet or regular.

Not quite, but I blend strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries together with different fruit juices to make smoothies. I drink one almost every day and it can replace a meal like you said, it's filling enough. Also is very cleansing and makes you feel good.
