I'm surprised to hear that people found Naked Gun funny, as Liam Neeson didn't strike me as a good replacement for Leslie Nielsen. The ads made it seem like it was going to be an abomination.
I'm going to have to consider seeing it now.

Weapons was fine. But I had really high hopes after that first trailer and in the end it left me feeling the same way as 90% of modern critically adored horror films. Not bad enough for me to be upset that I wasted my time and money, but not good enough for me to think about when it's over or ever watch again. It was also at least 30 minutes too long.

Sounds like Barbarian. It was a good movie but I didn’t get the hype after seeing it.

It's really hard to stick the landing on some of these horror movies (include Longlegs with those other 2 hyped up ones as well) because the who/what/why of it all is never as good as the ride we took to get there. That's just my opinion anyway.

To be fair, I really love Julia Garner and Josh Brolin and they were great. I also gasped when I realized I was watching Amy Madigan.

I think it's because it's really tough to buy a supernatural explanation in the final act. If a movie is grounded for 85% of its runtime and then pulls the rug out from under you because, I don't know, reasons, it just leaves you feeling unsatisfied. All of the sudden there's a witch or a psychic or some beast...whatever.

Related to this comment, my wife and I were trying to find something to watch and she was like, should we watch Lost, I’ve never seen it and I was like hell yeah. But now I’m wondering if this is some cruel and unusual torture I’m subjecting her to knowing where this journey is headed.
Hoping the amount of loose ends and the overall ending aren’t as bad as I remember.

I'm recycling shows to watch for the umpteenth time but this one never gets back in the rotation because of how bad it went. I think I'd watch HIMYM all the way through again before even considering Lost.

Anyone a fan of the Lincoln Lawyer? I find it an amusingly entertaining show.

Longlegs was straight trash. Like a Fincher movie written by a LLM. Still fun to watch Cage make bizarre choices though.

I really like it. Michael Connolly always has interesting characters and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is good (as is much of the cast). And if you haven't watched Bosch, it's also based on a Connolly book series set in the same LA venue.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I don't remember there being any loose ends in LOST, they just did the Jazz Heaven ending from Stardust Memories.

Was just having this conversation with a friend. IMO the greatness of Lost was that it created a new template that countless shows and movies have cooied (inventive world building, subtle fantasy elements, unending easter eggs.. all suggesting you are about to get the best twist ending since “Usual Suspects). But Lost failed so much in the resolution (not the final episode per se, more the lack of a unified plot and journey) that Ill never watch it again.

Re: OT TV and Movies (Please use spoiler tags)
The show From is very Lost-ish. Tons of weird things happening all over, but no real answers. It's just more of a horror theme. It's ok, I'm still watching because I want answers but I know I'll never get them...I'd give the show a 6/10 but I'm now invested to get through season 3 and watch the new season when it comes out. And I just know the ending of From will be terrible.
On that note, I hated Lost.

Re: OT TV and Movies (Please use spoiler tags)
From what I remember about Lost the creators had the concept of the beginning and how they wanted it to end but no real plan on how to get there. So it wandered around. Abrams left during the first season to do MI. Lloyd Braun, who came up with the concept, was fired before the show got going. Ratings were good. After season 3 ABC announced there would be 50 more episodes over 3 more seasons (they ended up doing 49) and that allowed the writers to tighten a few things up.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Everyone I know who binged Lost didn't enjoy it. Everyone who watched it week to week thought it was incredible.
I binged it. I hated it. I think it was because every time they hinted at something being important, it ended up not being anything. A whole lot of unused "Chekhov's guns" and those things all stayed fresh in my mind because I watched it quickly.

Yeah, it's not an all-time classic show, for me, but it's entertaining and well-acted. And Season 3 featured one of the most gorgeous women I've personally seen in Yaya DaCosta. Too bad she won't be back for Season 4, as her character was created specifically for the show and not from the source material.

Re: OT TV and Movies (Please use spoiler tags)
LOST would have been better served as a show if they hadn't been so pressured and tried to give the fantastic elements a realistic footing. It took a ton of cues from Twin Peaks (as many shows do), but like most shows/movies that ape Lynch, it didn't have the conviction to just observe the stuff that was deposited by their subconscious and leave it alone. Like, I'm sure there are people who got really worked up about never getting the full story of the Black Lodge or how it worked or what have you, but it would not have ever served the story to try to expose that.
The thing that worked best about LOST was the characters within that pseudo-magical pseudo-sci fi setting, and what I think people really wanted was a satisfying conclusion to *their* stories, and what we got was "everybody goes to heaven together" -- it pulled the rug out from under the entire series and retconned all the stakes. That's a cop-out and I think that's why it was rejected. Not because the explanation for the island wasn't cool enough. It didn't even need to be attempted.
Story-wise, I think they **** the show when Ben killed Locke.
Lindelof got another crack at it with The Leftovers and nailed it.
