There are lots of studies that support that diet sodas are actually worse for you than regular sodas.
Your body can not process the aspartame and is better off processing real sugar.
Oh I know this, but the sugar content in regular soda is crazy and I don't feel either are good for you. However, if I'm going to drink 4 cans of regular soda or 4 cans of diet soda, I'm going with the diet to avoid sugar. Obesity is a real consequence of all the sugar in our diets and and it can be argued that sugar has reached dangerous levels.
I'm a fan of sucralose over aspartame as well, but again I really only go with water or zero/low sugar sports drinks. I don't advocate for any sodas, diet or regular.
