Alienating them in favor of some Johnny Come Lately who will drop his tix as soon as it becomes unfashionable to attend or the market dips, is poor form imo. They likely have knowledge of what way Giannis is leaning and feel comfortable that they’ll be good for a long time, but who knows?
Good system would have been to reduce the increase by 2% for every year of holding tickets. 30 year holder? Your ticket increase is discounted by 60%. Brand new? You pay the full increase.
Would've been a cool strategy.
They cynic in me is that they think Giannis is leaving and want to get the base rate locked in super high and hope a deep playoff run locks in new ticket holders. I think a finals run will replenish STH temporarily.
I wonder if and when the owners bail. I don't see them here long-term and they made their initial money from the stadium, fixing operations and winning. The winning and stadium bump will only decrease in the future and operations will level off. I don't think much profit is made from running a team year-to-year. I'm willing to bet Herb would've been better off putting his money in the market than absorbing losses over 30 years.
