For some people soda and sugary drinks can make up over 25% of your total calorie intake.

If you can just cut that out, you will lose weight and be less bloated.

Vodka waters are pretty good. I normally am not a fan of vodka, but when it's watered down it really doesn't have a taste so you kind of feel like you are just drinking an ice water.

Haven't drank whiskey water as much, but I'm sure I'd be a fan since whiskey is probably my favorite liquor. I just stick with the vodka waters because there's a lot more calories in whiskey.

I really only had soda on the weekends when I did, but I didnt really notice much difference in my weight. Im sure if you have soda everyday, cutting out 100-200 empty calories a day could do some damage (in a good way).

Says the guy doing p90x. It's not like I'm educated on the topic or anything. Carry on with the broscience guys. While you're at it, try some reading comprehension. I said "a few diet sodas" within the context of artificial sweetener causing long term health concerns.

FWIW diet sodas have been linked with an increase in kidney problems, and colas have been linked with decreased bone density.

Man, I have a dip about once a year (only done it a handful of times in my life) and the buzz I get is ridiculous. Although I'm usually pretty drunk when I throw it in.

This is a little OT for this thread, but we should get a RealGM pick-up basketball game going in Madison this summer. I've been playing in a Keva league over the winter and will have an itch to play outdoors once it gets nicer out.

Enough diet soda can cause health problems, you're right. How much though? That's my point. You need a stupid amount of artificial sweetener for an otherwise healthy person to experience health issues. That's bro science. Making the leap from "10 cans a soda a day can cause health issues" to "diet soda causes health issues." And what other variables were skewed to make that stance? Dehydration can cause organ problems too. If someone is drinking enough diet soda to have health issues from the artificial sweetener from diet soda then they more than likely aren't drinking a healthy amount of water to stay hydrated either. Medical studies are often pretty slanted. If you don't know or believe that, we can just stop here.

2 or more servings per day doubles the risk of kidney function decline. Or so the data harvested from the Nurses' Health Study suggested. I suppose you have conflicting data.

There's an lol worthy paragraph from your study that perfectly sums up the last few sentences of my last post. I'll let you find it. There's actually a couple, let's see which ones you find.

This just hit my twitter feed.

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, discovered some frightening facts that should make us all swear off diet drinks and products.

Diet sodas raised the risk of diabetes more than sugar-sweetened sodas!

Women who drank one 12-ounce diet soda had a 33 percent increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, and women who drank one 20-ounce soda had a 66 percent increased risk.

Women who drank diet sodas drank twice as much as those who drank sugar-sweetened sodas because artificial sweeteners are more addictive and are hundreds to thousands of times sweeter than regular sugar.

The average diet soda drinker consumes three diet drinks a day.

You might say that people who are overweight and just about to get diabetes drink more diet soda, but they scientifically controlled for body weight. And they found the artificial sweeteners increased diabetes independent of body weight!

This and other research shows how diet sodas make people fat and sick.

And that diet drinks may be even worse than regular sugar-sweetened sodas! How does that happen?

Artificial sweeteners are hundreds to thousands of times sweeter than regular sugar, activating our genetically-programmed preference for sweet taste more than any other substance.

They trick your metabolism into thinking sugar is on its way. This causes your body to pump out insulin, the fat storage hormone, which lays down more belly fat.

It also confuses and slows your metabolism down, so you burn fewer calories every day.

It makes you hungrier and crave even more sugar and starchy carbs like bread and pasta.

In animal studies, the rats that consumed artificial sweeteners ate more, their metabolism slowed, and they put on 14 percent more body fat in just two weeks -- even eating fewer calories.
In population studies, there was a 200 percent increased risk of obesity in diet soda drinkers.

Yeah, I only dip during baseball season...well I started a month early this year :D
If I do it on an empty stomach, I get a buzz like none other. Only time I ever do pouches is if I am drunk. Much easier to handle pouches than long-cut while smashed.

I can't believe there are people that think drinking a few sodas a day "isn't that bad" for you.....diet or not....you are basically pouring poison into your system.....at least that's my point of view. You can live and believe whatever you want.

Edit: Yes I can believe.....because this is 'Merica!

For most of these studies its always been pointed out to me that people who are selected, are selected because they have a history drinking diet sodas. Who drinks diet sodas? People who have decided they need to cut the extra caloric intake out of their diet and are choosing diet sodas to help achieve a healthier lifestyle. Whether that works or not is immaterial if the prior lifestyle led to that choice as a result of being previously unhealthy or overweight, or whatever.

I don't have a dog in this fight water is the way to go, if I need caffeine then its coffee. For $1000 you can buy a super automatic espresso machine that makes Starbucks, or Alterra quality coffee in you own home relatively easily.
