The optimist in me is drawing parallels to Anfernee Simons, who was similarly tiny and unknown-ish since he entered the draft after a post-grad year at IMG when he was taken in the 1st round.

This is a fair question.

And I have to admit that I feel better after watching the video DrugBust posted.

Engage optimism.

I think that's sort of the point, right? It seems to point at him not being ready. We are supposed to be contending and there were some guys on the board many thought could help. It also lines-up with the narrative around Horst first rounders in this vein fare.

I know folks wanted a guy who could contribute right away but Doc Rivers doesn't exactly have a reputation for playing rookies. Maybe it's better to draft a guy who you think will be the best player in 3-4 years.

Watching the Knicks trade down on the next pick made it even worse.

Drafted for the future. Won't help us contend for a title for the next 2-3 years. So we basically drafted our Jordan Love.

I'm more angry at the thinking behind the pick than the player itself. I don't understand not wanting a player to help now given where we're at as a team.

You can hate the pick, but it can't be for thinking the Bucks took him too early.

maybe they knew something but I bet you can literally not find one single mock on the whole internet where he's in the top 33

Probably because the people doing the mocks aren't watching guys who didn't play much in the Australian league.

The Bucks must have liked what they saw at the combine and in their workouts. If they liked him there's a good chance someone else in the 20s did too.

I'm psyched. Would have liked Dunn, but I'm not gonna complain about an interesting young mystery box pick.

I don’t know why Horst is such a contrarian when it comes to the draft. No idea what we’re doing here. One of the most raw prospects in the draft who most everyone had as an early-mid 2nd rounder. Cool….

https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-draft-combine-10-players-who-helped-their-draft-stock-172423141.html

Johnson might have been the biggest surprise of the combine, particularly as a 6-foot-6 point guard. The 19-year-old elected to play overseas in Australia's NBL for the Illawarra Hawks and didn't see much playing time this past season. Any scout who went over to see him saw a completely different player at the combine. He was quick off the dribble and had the best dunk of the combine as he finished through contact over Nique Clifford. Johnson had 13 points and 4 assists in his first scrimmage and showed more promise as a facilitator in the second game, dishing out 6 assists and adding 4 points. Johnson is definitely one of the biggest risers after the week in Chicago, and don't be surprised if he sneaks into the first round on upside and potential.

I choose optimism.

Ah it's pick 24 in a bad draft, I don't hate the swing for the fences pick, especially with guys like Ware, Holmes, Missi etc gone, I did not want Filipowski there.

Former 4-5 star recruit, expected top 15-20 pick this time last year. Had crept up to late 1st / early 2nd in some mocks and Vecine is a big fan. Did nothing last year here in Aus but it's a bit more like Euroleague with the veteran guys and established players getting more responsibility and development players often treated just like that.

I would have liked to trade back a bit and got some more future assets we may need, but obviously there was a bit of talk of him going late 1st now and I could absolutely see a Washington or Charlotte etc trading up to grab him there as a development guy. Look forward to watching him in Vegas!

Weird there was so much heat on us with this dude today.

Now that he is a Buck, he is one of my favorite players. But lord, he better be ready to work his ass off, gain 30 pounds and sign a below market extension or this was a whiff for a win now team. But I like the high upside swing, just would have made more sense if we drafted a win now at 23, then use 33 for the future
