Never knew AG had been trying to become a head coach since 2012. Obvious red flag here.

The narrative on the Bucks postgame radio show Wednesday night after the Cleveland game was that the Bucks head coach vacancy is still open. They purposely avoided mentioning the various media reports claiming that Rivers is the new coach. They would not even mention Rivers' name or say that many outlets are reporting that the Bucks have a coach. The closest they would get to touching the topic with their ten foot pole was to say that where there is smoke there is fire, leaving listeners to figure out what they were talking about.

That left me dumbfounded. I don't get what they were trying to accomplish. Especially with ESPN saying why Rivers has left their broadcast team.

Giannis's perspective on Griffin's hiring

In a position like that, you have to understand that when somebody's being hired at times, the GM might come and ask, "What do you think about that?" "What do you think about this?" or whatever and not just me, players, people that he trusts their advice.

But at times, they make it seem like it's the players that are making the decision, and this guy got traded because he wanted him, but like, no. I have a job. My job is to be the best version that I can be and try to lead this team to win games.

Like, that is why I get paid. I don't get paid to change people's lives and make people uncomfortable. I get paid to defend, block shots, and I try to stick to that as much as I can. Because I understand that I don't like that aspect of it.

And there's people that get paid a lot of money to make those decisions and those decisions are hard. And I also gotta respect Jon. Because it's hard. It's not easy. But again, me personally, I don't want to be involved in that. I don't like that.

Have I been in a position to be asked, "What do you think about that?" or "What do you think about this?" Yeah, many times. But I was not involved in the hiring of Coach Griff. I talked with him the same way I talked with Coach Bud. But nobody said I was involved, you know, in hiring Coach Bud because I was a kid.

But of course, they asked, "What do you think about this guy?" "I think he's a great guy. He looks like a good guy to me." "What do you think about Coach Griff?" Everybody, they're good people. But ultimately, I don't make that decision.

I mean, Bud did only get hired after sitting down with Giannis and Khris. Giannis has more influence than he’s willing to admit but at same time there is a shifting of blame at foot. The FO or whoever kinda threw Giannis under the bus I guess so they don’t get blamed?

Giannis doesn’t want to get involved in any decision making. It’s not his job. Meanwhile his brother has been on the roster for like 6 years.

I think he is honest. If Nurse has said things about him in the past, he remembers. His answer could well be: I don't like him. Nothing more, nothing less.
And what could he know about an assistant on another team? I never understood why Giannis would pick Griffin as the new HC. So I never believed Giannis made this pick.

I think Horst made a calculated gamble. He knew he could fire a rookie HC soon if it wouldn't work out as planned/hoped. It's not bad for the team. They know now how important it is to have a good coach. If Doc earns the respect with some good changes it could work very well.

Let me clarify your confusion. There's a difference between saying very little and lying. If he said I'm not going to get into the details of why Griffin is gone, that is more than acceptable. Making up a story that I only made the change because Dame is here, et al is a lie.

It's baffling to me that so many on here readily accept blatant lies, as if that is what is expected these days.

Joerger coming in to coach the defense would be a godsend. Let's make it happen.

Giannis is friends with Siakam and OG.

They hated Nurse by the end. And stands to reason they strongly advocated for Griffin.

Giannis passed that on. Maybe subtly or maybe not. Either way it’s Horst’s job to deflect PR damage from his star.

I don’t think the leaks that it’s Giannis’ fault are coming from Horst. It seems widely known around the league.

Even moreso that Giannis got Bud out of there so unceremoniously amidst tragedy while going viral talking about how the season wasn’t a failure with footage tailor made for his next feel good movie.

I feel more optimistic today, dropping the nonsensical crap Griff wanted the team to do defensively is going to make Doc seem like a genius at least initially. Our ceiling is higher this season, IDK about long term but there is no guaranteed they wouldn't sign an even worse coach like Mark Jackson or another Adrian Griffin if they waited until the offseason. Signing Doc now I guess is better than waiting & signing him in the offseason if he's going to be the top candidate anyway.

oh man looks like they wanna move on from Cam Payne, guess they have to sign Austin Rivers now

In fairness to Giannis, that's quite a bit different than his decision being the central deciding factor in the Bucks' coaching search.

I don't find that especially surprising (this is why we have Jimmy Haslem) but to anyone who somehow thought they might re-evaluate the coaching situation this offseason....yeah that's not happening.

I’m not worried about contract length. I don’t think Haslam is hesitant to pay out salaries for guys fired, if they suck.

Years on contracts don’t mean much anymore so that’s not a worry if he ends up not being the guy.

I’m more just in awe of how Doc continues to land gigs and that Horst would risk tying his job to a coach that continually fails. Desperation sucks.
