Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread - June 26/27
Man. There are so few prospects that get my riled up this year lol. Kelel Ware or Terrence Shannon I'd love. Baylor Scheierman or Kevin McCullar I just done see it with. Basically everyone else is just meh to me. So many guys to me seem like they'll just be okish role players in the NBA.
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

I see Bucks Twitter is very anti Filipowski. Curious why that is? Seems like really good value at 23 if he were to fall

Doesn't seem like a good fit. Skilled offensively, but not a good defender. Feels like best case is this current version of Bobby.

That would be an awesome pick at 23

Filipowski's probably getting a little underrated at this point, even if he's a player type I tend to completely avoid (T-rex arm Center). He's got really good on-ball skills for a guy his size, moves laterally really well, and has quick hands on defense. He'll go as far as how much he can develop as a 3PT spacer and high post passer, both of which look promising already. He's probably one of if not the safest bet to be at least a rotation guy out of all the dudes in the 20-30 range (assuming he's available there).

My final prediction for Milwaukee:
23. Kel'El Ware, C Indiana
33. Bobi Klintman, SF/PF Australia

Vecenie's final mock in the Times:
23 - Kyle Filipowski
33 - A.J. Johnson
Lists Pacôme Dadiet as another option at 23. I would like that pick more.

I don't necessarily hate Filipowski in a vacuum but the fit on our current roster isn't very inspiring at all. If we go that way I hope there are other moves lined up.

That pair tonight would be absolutely gross.

I really like the theoretical fit of Filipowski with Giannis. Could be perfect compliments offensively and defensively, against most teams.
Can Filipowski guard Embiid? Prob nah, but just sign Drummond or somebody for that.

Anybody else think we'll take somebody mocked in the 2nd at 23?

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread - June 26/27
Flipowski shot less than 50% from 2, less than 32% from 3, 72% from the line in college. Not a great athlete. Short arms. Won't offer rim protection. Not a great passer. I could see if he was an absolute knockdown shooter or could become one soon, but I just don't see that either. He would be a bad pick at 23.

He shot 56% from 2?

My bad, was looking at overall FG% career (.473).
That said, I am still not a fan. But mostly because I don't think he's really great at anything.

He's a white center who isn't an elite athlete. That's all it takes for some people.
I do agree that he's not the cleanest fit given what we are in need of on our roster but purely as a prospect I think #23 would be a very appropriate spot for him.

I totally get why others are low on him. I have him basically right at our spot on my big board. But those that are strongly-anti Filipowski would say he's not what we're looking for athletically, arguably doesn't have a position in the NBA due to relatively short arms/athleticism and lack of mobility for 4's, and didn't shoot the ball as well as you'd think.
I tend to be fairly bullish on the shooting ability and I think people tend to underestimate his skill level. Duke was also one of the best defensive teams in the country both of his years there and particularly this past season, Filipowski was a big reason why. Perhaps it won't translate, but he blocked a fair number of shots this year, gets his hands on passes, rebounds, and on the offensive end he's kinda Olynyk-y; good passer, can dribble a bit, finish a bit, post up a bit. If he turns into the kind of shooter that he was billed as coming out of high school, he should be a very nice piece offensively and I have some hope for him defensively but easy to see where he could struggle there.
Edit: He's also just a classic Duke guy that people tend to hate. The weird thing with the court storming doesn't help in that regard either.

Shannon could start at the sg spot with the big three if they stay together. Has plenty of upside and yoy could say good bye to Beas and Pat B if they don't resign for the min.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread - June 26/27
How would Sabonis fit with Giannis if you gave him less rebounding but more reliable shooting? If the answer is "still bad" then you probably go another route with our 1st. Otherwise I think that's Filipowski's ultimate ceiling. I think he's getting underrated as an athlete (check the tape and how he tested on the agility drills at the combine).
