The good news is the owners have apparently no problem giving money away. The bad news is it's not to me.

Doc is going to be coaching the Milwaukee Bucks for the foreseeable future, he'd have to totally **** the bed in humiliating fashion for his seat to even get warm this season

The Bucks need a good x's and o's guy who is a decent communicator and the players will listen to.

that is not what they need

They should give this board $100m to split as a consulting fee.

It is pretty wild to see Doc go from a guy who wasn't even a candidate for us last offseason to a guy we are willing to throw the bag at and commit to longterm.

Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Shaq, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Joel Embiid, James Harden. Now add Giannis, Dame, & Khris. Has a coach ever coached more HOF level players in their career than Doc Rivers?

Good for Doc. He got $10 million more than I thought he'd get. But is it for 3.5 years, so I wasn't far off with the 3/$30 number.

Guy is a master of working the boardroom. An absolute master. He makes John Hammond look like a hobo in that regard. And Hammond was good.

I am hopeful Doc actually shows he's a solid hire with the talent we have and not having to deal with headcases like he has. And we're not facing the same juggernauts as he was. I hope many of you have to eat crow.

I see him as being pretty similar to Bud, which obviously cuts both ways. People were dying to move on from Bud but we also won a championship (with a really good chance to repeat if Khris doesn't get hurt) with him at the helm. In summary, sign me up for another title and then everybody desperately wanting Doc fired a few years from now. :D

Your larger point stands, but he never coached Jimmy. Doc’s first season in Philly was 2021 which was jimmy’s second season in Miami.

Stotts was there in case of this very scenario, first-year head coach Griffin imploding and being let go mid-season. If Stotts had stuck it out and swallowed his frustration, would the Bucks be in a better position with him as coach rather than Doc?

Probably fairly similar, but in hindsight it seems clear that Griffin realized how easy of a change this would be for ownership to make and wanted Stotts out. Don't think there's a world where this was actually a realistic scenario

Think ownership realized they needed a guy of equal stature with the veteran all-stars on the team. That's Doc's strength.

Dave Joerger will provide the x and o's stuff.

I actually think this could work out tremendously well.

One thing I'll give Doc is I do think he outcoached Mazzula in that series last year despite Philly losing. I don't think Mazzula is some great coach or anything but if we face-off against Boston in the playoffs I'm fairly confident Doc will atleast hold his own there. No against Spo or Nurse I'm not so sure

I take it you think he's likely to come over with Doc? It would make me feel a lot better if he's here to help manage the actual on court x's and o's like you said.

I will say the only team he had that was probably the most talented in the league was the 08-10 Celtics. He won a title in year 1, lost the second year because his best player in KG was out for the playoffs, and then made it back to the finals, losing in 7 games, in 2010.

Currently Joerger is the men's head coach for the FIBA qualifying team, which starts up next month. And he consults for the Cavaliers.

Doc does not like to get his hands dirty with tons of details. Have to feel Joerger is part of the package.

I’m happy the deal got done and Doc will be taking over soon. As much as I don’t think he’s a great coach, he definitely is competent and knows how to handle a team with veteran stars.

I’m also upset with whoever was leaking the Giannis stuff, throwing him under the bus for apparently hiring Griff. Even if that was true, you don’t throw your once-in-a-generation franchise player under the bus for that. I really hope it wasn’t Horst. I doubt he would do that. Who was it then?
