Having lineups with 2 guys on the floor that can't shoot well (Kuz/GA/Sims) hurts you less if you focus on attacking or getting a good shooter open early in the clock.

With 9 seconds on the clock NBA teams defenses are too good at forcing the ball to the worst shooter for a bad 3 attempt.

Bobby slows down everything and is a turnstile on D. The rebounding he gives you is replaced by more hustle and D you get from Kuz/Sims. GA/Porter/Kuz in draw and kick situations early in the clock fixes it and we'll be up 20 on teams quickly.

Where's Kidd? Let's hire him just to babysit Kuz and tell him to not shoot 3s and work on the rest of his game.

I think you have this backwards. The guy who can only launch 3s should play next to the other starters. He's nothing like Vinnie Johnson.
Anthony is more the Microwave 6th man type.

Obviously Kuzma trades should always be explored but a Bobby + 31 1st deal could net us a legit starting SF and raise this team’s ceiling considerably.

I think Bobby's a great fit. You can count on him as a shooter and a ball mover in lineups with adequate creators, he's going to be active on the glass at both ends, he'll get aggressive on ball screens in a way that can make ball-handlers stutter, and he can make something happen with a short clock if need be. And you can count on him, even if you maybe can't count on his assistant. He's always ready to go. Great teammate (with one obvious exception).

Huh? Bobby is the only non-Giannis guy that I own multiple shirts/jerseys/merch of, but I'll co-sign what most are saying re: his current fit on the roster isn't exactly ideal with the change in pace and play of this in theory, more athletic and versatile personnel. I think we're gonna need his bench scoring simply because the offense is gonna be rough in the non-Giannis minutes, but his one major weakness there is that he too often suffers tunnel vision and can be a massive ball-stopper. With Turner in the fold, he's right back to being a luxury asset rather than a necessity, and unfortunately, that makes him one of our few positive trade assets at the deadline.

Ok, I know we usually disagree, but this post is just really a lot of garbage.

If you want to blame GA for his injuries, and that fact preventing us from winning another one (or two), then I can MAYBE buy that. But no superstar in the NBA has had worse luck with supporting cast (specifically the 2nd and 3rd options) injuries since the title year than GA. Nobody else is close.

In 2022, he carried us to game 7 against the Celtics without Middleton and with Jrue shooting .364 from the field and .300 from 3. GA averaged 34/15/7 in the series without a legit 2nd option, albeit at less efficiency than usual due to the constant double and triple teams.

In 2023 GA hurt his back, and Butler turned into prime Jordan. But again, even in the games he did play, Jrue couldn't score. Of all the series since the title year, this one is probably the one where GA takes the most blame, only because Middleton and Jrue were both healthy and GA only played in 3 of the games.

2024, the calf injury. Nothing you can do.

2025, no Midds and a gimpy Dame.

Really, the only year outside of 2021 they had a legit shot at the title based on health and things falling into place was 2019 when they lost to Toronto. Up 2-0 in that series and they pretty much had game 3 on lock. But again, in that series, our starting PG shoots .172 from 3.

GA has absolutely carried this team literally even second he's been healthy since like 2017. Has he had some injuries? Yes. It's probably because he never takes games off and he hasn't been load managed properly. But there is literally nobody in the NBA that deserves less criticism than him.

I don't get the take that BP is a ball stopper. He is the ultimate unselfish team player. He does post up a lot, but if you think he does that on bis own, then I have swamp land to sell you.

Most times that BP posts up, you can tell that it's called from the bench. Criticize the coaching for that if you want. In a fast paced offense, hopefully he'll be open more and more efficient, minimizing the need for post ups.

Yes, and those post ups are only called when the shot clock runs down. Those post ups are inefficient compared to normal shots, but are more efficient than typical end of shot clock chucks.

Maybe Bobby isn't a perfect fit for everything were doing now, but it's still better than when Buds would play him at center in a deep drop scheme.

i fully understand all the reasons weve been getting beat and im not "blaming giannis". the point was to debate how amazing and elite he is as "a winner".....and thats extremely debateable except apparently with bucks fans. winners arent losers with asterisks. its a key point about the winning thing. you actually have to.....win

the one title we had was when his teammates stepped up bigtime and dug us out of the hole we were in.... and that the series after none of us wanted to hear any goddam excuses about why the nets got their asses beat. bunch of injury prone career losers well they lost again. so do the math on that one right?

if you think my post is garbage fine. lets move on.

Sacramento actually (hilariously) signed Westbrook.

They reportedly had no faith in their backup PG’s which sure won’t help Devin Carter’s trade value and doesn’t look great for Malik Monk’s versatility either.

Meanwhile Keegan is out and even with him they still need a 4.

The idea that Bud didn't know how to use Bobby is hilarious. The "lineup killer Bobby" stuff perfectly coincided with the changeover to mush-brain coaching (Griff/Doc), and only really subsided once Doc stopped amplifying it by playing his stupid jumbo lineups with him and Brook, or him and Pat plus another big. Like, he was straight up nuking the team net-rating in that October to February stretch of the 2023-24 season and it was well documented in the numbers. It's not even a criticism of Bobby as much as it is of coaching and roster construction. He's just not a guy that you can plug-and-play in any lineup and be fine defensively, especially in the playoffs.

If Smitty or Bogo were NBA players we could have traded Bobby but they're not/yet. Bobby is still much better than a lot of the guys out there.

Giannis put up 44/20/6 in game 6 against Boston in 2022.

A hall of fame level performance that wins us that series and arguably gets the Bucks to the NBA Finals. But is forgotten by a lot of people because Giannis got zero help and the Bucks lost the game and eventually lost that series. Giannis did his part and then some.

That one is still a gut punch 3+ years later.

Bud made Bobby unplayable in the playoffs by forcing him to play the wrong defensive scheme. Since Bud was canned the Bucks are a whopping 32 points/100 better with Bobby on the floor in the playoffs.

Last years early season on/off struggles were simply small sample noise from being asked to carry some awful bench lineups.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
