I thought that post was a meme joke. Figured there was no way JOB would be back.

GOB maybe, JOB? No way.

Wait. What? JOB is back? I thought we signed someone to the herd with those initials.

Unless he developed some skills in Europe (or wherever he's been) the last few years, I see zero reason to bring him back.

He turned himself into a highly productive player overseas. Shot 34.5% from three last year in 40 games, 38.1% from three the year before through 30, and 35.5% the year prior through 67 (for Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv a top program in that year no less). It's hard to see anything more than zero reason to bring him back if you don't look.

theyr also high effort and energy guys.
im ok with using Thanasis way more during the regular season.
dont even care if he fouls out every time.
just let him wreck havoc.

I would also like to see young guys like Nwora and the 2 rooks get playing time during the regular season to see what we have in them/help them develop.
still learning the game

You said he had improved at least in one skill (though, tbh, I don't know how those #s will translate to the NBA).

A center with .360 3p% in the NBA has me intrigued.

Unless he can do things that make a center valuable, like be a plus defender in the paint and pick and roll, being a 36% shooter to me just means we'd be better off finding a wing who could shoot that.

Whatever though, camp body, pretty obviously won't make it.

JOB is athletic enough, long, can move his feet and seemingly has developed reliable range. Not hard to see why he's a camp body.

Yeah, that is not an NBA player.

I think there is another way to view JOB's camp deal.

Horst always has a number of secondary roster plans going into a season. Over the last three campaigns he has added Mirotic, Marvin Williams, and PJ Tucker as key pieces during the season. I doubt that those additions were spur of the moment. More likely, they were each one of several possible moves that Horst had on his radar.

It is likely that Horst has identified several players on other NBA rosters that might become available during the coming season, either by trade or via buyout from their current team. His due diligence would include checking with other GMs and agents to gain insight to their thinking and possible plans, and determining how he and the Bucks can be viewed positively as a trading partner or free agent destination. With that in mind, giving a player like Johnny O'Bryant a camp contract could be motivated more by improving the chances of making an important roster move down the road, than by any expectation that JOB will help the Bucks today or in the future.

While RealGM posters are avid fans with an above average insight into NBA goings on, we are generally in the dark when it comes to mid-season roster moves. What appear to be insignificant today could be preparing the way for a potential move later this season.

I think this is the most important thing to keep in mind for right now when talking about this deal. Someone has to eat some preseason minutes if we're resting guys. I think it's highly unlikely that he's on the roster come regular season time.

Just briefly let's recap JOB's NBA time, because it was a long time ago.

He was one of the worst NBA players I'd ever seen his rookie year. His 2nd year, he was *massively* improved. He was still one of the worst players in the league.

We let him walk and he bounced around a little bit, was essentially G League David West, had some decent moments with the Hornets and then went overseas, where he's been a big-bodied scoring big. Mostly from midrange, where he's got good touch.

Americans who produce in Euroleague tend to get a couple more bites at the NBA apple. This is one of JOB's. He's a long shot to stick but he deserves the chance, and it's really just funny that it's with us, where everybody remembers how bad he was.

My whole point was that you made that statement without doing your due diligence to check on what's happened over the last three years. That type of thing takes just as long to look up as it does to type that out that post.

I think the reason JOB didn't stick in the League is because he isn't athletic enough. Not that I am anything but indifferent towards this signing, I just honestly never thought I'd see his name again.
