I don’t think Bud liked Thanasis. Let’s see how the new coach thinks

Thanasis is capable of playing the PJ Tucker role, minus being a vocal leader. Tucker didn't stop KD but he did wear him out. Bud didn't give Thanasis and Semi a chance, he just loved watching Pat bite on all 3 pump fakes and land on the 1st seat row.

Sweet Jesus.

I never understood the Thanasis hate. I could theorize, but it would not be too flattering to the haters. The idea that his presence on the roster is just a sop to Giannis has some sentiments embedded in it that are a little unseemly.

Two points: 1) Really -- you care that much about the 15th roster spot? 2) This is not an unprecedented Milwaukee sports situation.

--Yes. I care about the 15th roster spot. Teams do and absolutely should.

--Tommie Aaron wasn't nearly as bad as Thannies.

I, like everyone else, understand the dynamic here. It's just a shame we have to waste that roster spot.

Yep, Heat have made the Finals now a number of years with Udonis Haslem on that roster. The difference is Riley found guys like Martin, Strus, Vincent, etc. etc, whereas Horst is still dinking around with guys like Lindell Wigginton.

I don't mind that Thanasis is on the team. I just hate that he gets in the games.

just posted this in the general board but want to post here as well

every player in the league is there for their genetics and thansis is no different except different genetics are being valued.

id also say hes a throwback to the time in the league where goons were valued and every team had one. thanasis is on the list of GOAT goons. he often gets into it with the other teams best player like a good goon should. that player retaliates and potentially gets thrown off their game. only this time it gets better because giannis takes it personally and his backup battery gets engaged.

thanasis deserves every dollar he gets from us and he absolutely isnt there just to keep giannis happy. hes there to motivate giannis while he potentially gets somebody else thrown out. the goon role is an important one in all sports and thanasis even tho everybody else in the league has figured out thats what he is... giannis still hasnt. its a great dynamic for us

Well, he does share the ML record for most home runs by brothers: 768 (1.7% contribution to the total). But I doubt he would have gotten even the proverbial cup of coffee in the Bigs if his name were Aaron Tommie.

Would Thanasis have gotten a look coming out of the D League if he had no freakish relatives? Teams might have kicked the tires because of his defensive skills, albeit defending D-Leaguers, but I think his offensive limitations would have dissuaded them. The Knicks choosing to draft him at 50 was probably a "maybe it's the genes" move similar to the discretion shown to Tommie Aaron.

And here I am doing what I said was pointless -- wasting pixels on the 15th roster spot. The nepotism police need to stand down here and enjoy his towel waving.

Start Thanasis, bring Giannis off the bench.

Wait wait wait. Bro...
Let me get this straight.
You don't think thanasis has ever been the worst guy on the team?

Both arguments can be equally true. It’s important to keep Thanasis around for Giannis and for the energy/camaraderie AND it’s also a nepotistic waste of a spot that we could use for a guard or someone who could contribute. Yes, Thanasis is our 15th man who barely plays, but let’s not act like someone else couldn’t take that spot and run with it, becoming an actual contributor.

You don't mind having the worst player in the NBA on your favorite team?

Welcome back Thanasis.
Your skills are so unappreciated here , Bud held you back my brother cause of your name in the back. Though you deserved more minutes for a least one season to see what you got ... he was afraid of being called out for playing you cause of your name. You deserved it, it was denied by Bud, BUT you kept your smile at the bench, waiving that towel for Giannis and teammates. You sacrificed your basketball self in order to stay close and protect Giannis. Those who know , just know ... You are an amazing brother . Welcome back

Nah. Every team has unplayable guys at the very end of the bench.

The fact that we'd rather have thanasis over Wes Matthews is insane.

You guys love to throw the "worst player in the league" label around like it's fact and I can't imagine anyone who follows basketball actually believes that.

I personally can’t think of anyone with less NBA level ability than Thanasis. If one of you can find a player with less discernible skill, I’ll be impressed. Again, we all know why he’s here…but let’s not delude ourselves into thinking that he isn’t worthless on the court.
