it's been so long since we've had a young player with any promise at all, that i dont remember if it's normal to extend them early.

If we could get him for like 4/40, that would be a monster win.

Just curious, what do you think would be a good contract for KPJ?

4/40 would be steal for AJ imo, 3 point specialists who can play D don’t grow on trees.

Athleticism isn't much of a determinant of scoring ability. In fact most elite NBA athletes, which I wouldn't consider Ajax in even, are bad scorers. They're defenders/hustle guys.

Scoring is more of a byproduct of jump-shooting/touch, and moves to manipulate opponents. Ajax has neither. Going back to the sub-elite athleticism, he doesn't jump well from a standstill (mediocre standing vert at combine) & isn't strong (sub 200 lbs) to supplement.

I like the guy but this would be depressing. Welcome Kent Bazemore and Alan Crabbe. Or Delavadova.

These type of guys do not age well.

Bazemore got 4/70 & Crabbe got 4/75, both nearly a decade ago when the cap was much lower. For comparison AJ Green would need to sign for roughly $100 million to be the equivalent of those deals. 4/40 would be less than the MLE per year
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Ideal deal would be a multi-year deal that would allow us to get bird rights, but with only the first year guaranteed and/or with specific conditions that could void it (beyond what's in a standard contract). Starting around half the full MLE. He's still in a prove-it stage behaviorally. Kind of a probationary contract.

Dairy is a categorically different shooter. Honestly, probably multiple categories away.

Dairy is 25 and would be 30 at the end of that deal. It would be a great deal.

This would be less than 1/16th of the cap. Would be a huge underpay.

I think you've expressed you don't like the guy. You were pretty dismissive about his contribution. And this would fit that opinion.

He's very little like the players you mentioned. Elite shooter, strong, solid defender. He's closer to the category of Lu Dort (No-Hue Dort) than those guys. Dort got 16.5/yr. MJS reported 9-12/yr for Green on the open market. Which he's not on, so 7 sounds about right, & it'd age well.

I am not going to contest his lack of scoring ability at all. He has none. The closest comparison is Caruso.

Not an elite athlete is a very weird assertion, though.

I described some. Doesn't jump well from a standstill & isn't strong. I'd throw in he's uncoordinated. It's in part why he was all-time bad at the dunk contest. More a fast runner, than quick. Doesn't beat guys off the dribble & guys get by him a fair amount. Run & jump guy.

It's not that simple. They're polar opposites for off the court issues. And Green is coming off a better playoffs than KPJ. It has many questioning if KPJ's style translates. I'm agnostic. I think KPJ has more value to us due to core potential/creative ability. But it's about what you can leverage.

The off the court issues are why KPJ is even with the Bucks and not making way more money, I want to retain him too and hope it’s not an either or thing him or Green.

Green on 4/40 would be steal tho and would still be a movable asset with value imo, every team can use a player with his skill set.

KPJ is a 3 level scorer. That is the big differece. Plus it was his 1st playoff. Both are valuable.

I think he's actually talking about AJJ and not AJG right?

Players who rely quick twitch don't age well. Skill players like AJG do age well, but age is irrelevant here as this deal would be for his prime years.

AJG just shot 51% from 3 in the playoffs. The Bucks were 28 points/100 better with him on the floor in the playoffs. He's perfect playing off of Giannis. He's Horst's best league entry addition. He'll be here for years.
