Yes, we desperately need bbiq. I really wanted to draft him last year and hope he turned into TJ McConnell. It really shouldn't take much to get him.

Don't think he plays anything like TJ McConnell in the slightest but feel much better after watching him play better competition the past season and hold his own.

Listening to the Doc/Simmons pod. FWIW he mentioned how he just got lunch with Brook in Orlando. Also made references to Gary multiple times. He also thinks Dame is back by the end of the year.

He was making $9ish last year. If he'd play on a similar number we could do a sign and trade where we pay him 3 yrs / $27m and send the Grizzlies Pat and a 2nd?

Last time we heard a story like Doc meeting with someone it was Pat on the golf course and point guard Pat was born shortly thereafter. This makes me nervous about Brook. We’re gonna overpay to keep him and he’ll inevitably be unplayable when we need him most. Looking forward to the disappointment.

Definitely talked about Gary like he wasn't an FA.

The only thing I want from this offseason is to be smart and do everything we can to avoid crippling us further financially/draft capital wise. This is a perfect opportunity to try and reset for 2026. Overpaying Brook for a longer contract, or giving Bobby too much in an extension, or trading the 31 1st to get off a contract....all of these would kill me as a fan.

The only way I’m comfortable keeping Brook is if we find a way to dump Pat without surrendering significant draft capital (‘31 1st) and opening up more cap space. I don’t see that happening though. Keeping Brook will hinder our ability to keep players that I think are more valuable (Trent, Bobby, etc.).

Even without the Doc-Brook thing, I’ve recently had a sneaking suspicion Brook is coming back. I think Giannis, Doc and the front office value him too much to let him go. Crossing my fingers that it’s at least a team friendly deal.

Sending Brook to Disney would be a good move. Orlando is all in now after the Bane trade, they could certainly use a floor stretching rim protector with their big 3. Lets figure that out.

Probably would cost more than that to offload Pat. But Kennard is super attractive to me as a truly deadly shooter who's also a really good passer. Nobody's leaned into the PnR game he showed in Detroit, but I think it's still in there. Even if it's not, he's one of the few guys you might not leave to help on Giannis. Lineups with Giannis, Green, and Kennard would put tremendous stress on the defense across a huge area, and in a bulletproof way (that can't be schemed out of): you have to have a lot of great defenders.

Separately, I think Pat is potentially playable in the new paradigm -- I don't think it should be a priority to move him anymore, particularly as an expiring.

Pat doesn't cost anything to offload... Assuming he opts in he's a 9.34M expiring contract in a league where everyone is trying to duck apron status. He can probably net us a mid to late 1st at the trade deadline.

Brook has repeatedly shown he can no longer play when it matters. How many centers does he match up well against these days? If we keep him, it’s just another signal in a long line of signals that our front office cares more about emotional ties and feelings as opposed to you know, winning playoff games. I'll never understand our fascination with surrounding the fastest transition big of all time with slow, plodding old guys. Truly believe we should let him go 2-3 years ago.

Running it back just without Dame isn't appealing to me. I wanted them to trade 2/3s of the Khris, Bobby, brook contingent last offseason. I'd be happy for them to be rid of all of them going into next year. Get some new faces around the team. It's not like the current group has done much of relevance the last few years besides lose early.

I'd be more interested in seeing what kind of asset we can get by bringing in a 2 year bad money deal in exchange for Pat's expiring than I would be in using assets to offload a Kuzma. Line up all your money to expire next year with Dame.

Could we get a late first in that scenario? Early's 20s ish?

Yes, this is the way (turning bad money into worse money for assets). But I'd put the odds of this front office being that creative at about 1% at this point. Doc being back all but telegraphed our offseason plans.

If we could somehow just get a top 25 guy in free agency after Dame's contract....

Yeah, that’s really interesting. Off to the trade machine I go.

Also, I think there’s been some confusion around sign and trades in the new CBA. There’s been some mention that we could only take back 50% of the new contract value, but the BYC rule only applies if:

The new contract is a raise of more than a 20% over the previous salary.

In the case of Brook, he’ll almost assuredly receive a lesser contract, and then standard trade rules apply.

Orlando actually has the perimeter defenders to make Brook feasible. It really would be good for them. But what would we get?

Seems like the obvious answer would be Goga or Wendell Carter jr since the salary is in the same ballpark and they have three centers

It being basically impossible to build/upgrade a team through free agency in the modern NBA is exactly why a team like Orlando just paid so much for a Top-40 guy like Desmond Bane. It's why I don't get why people think "clearing the books" is important anymore. Unless you have a back-channel to Luka's camp saying he wants to team up with Giannis here next summer, there's not a single projected free agent that's gonna be enough of a needle-mover to the point where you need to be prioritizing cap space.

If you can just find a way to acquire another future 1st attached to whatever junk salary the tax teams wanna dump (Jrue? MPJ? Grayson? Conley?) then please do it. We're then in much better position to build a competitive trade offer next offseason for whatever Top-25ish guy becomes available, because you're not finding that dude in free agency.

Brook S&T to ORL

Bobby S&T to GSW

Pat for Hauser

Resign GTJ and KPJ

Rebuild Kuz value, trade at deadline

These all seem like easy braindead moves

Can we just find a guy who can dribble, shoot, rebound, pass and has a decent BBIQ? I don't care how athletic they are.

We've tried the Marjon, AJJ and Kuzma types.

for a minimum? nope!

with pick 47? probably not.

A guy like Kalkenbrenner or Nembhard may be available and they fit the bill I mention.Kalkenbrenner isn't a three point threat yet, but is highly skilled,as is Nembhard. So yes, they are available.

Nembhard can't rebound and probably won't be able to defend in the NBA, decent chance he's there at 47 and I like him too fwiw

Kalk won't be there at 47, and if he somehow is, it's because he's scared everyone off by having the same level of lateral agility as 37y/o lopez
