The toll road was built by a joint venture of 2 Greek construction companies. That CEO.
They collect the toll revenue as payment and they have the operation and maintenance of the road, so they have some cameras and maintenance cars that come and break your balls if you dare to pull over to the side for whatever reason. In theory they have the responsibility to clear car breakdowns, but in most cases the police and emergency services take over.

Remember, ploughing snow in Athens is like a once in a decade thing, they probably never clarified whose job it is exactly. And nobody was prepared for thousands of cars stuck in the snow overnight. Now they'll probably go out and buy some snow ploughs at double the normal price and by the time the next snowstorm comes they won't even remember where the keys are LOL

I have no idea how there isn't better built in blocking on my iPhone or AT&T isn't filtering this. It's been going on forever and I've long pass had it.

It's AT&T, unfortunately. I started getting them daily only after switching. Everything else has been great - way better service here than T-Mobile was giving me - but the spam texts they don't filter are absolutely asinine.

I called them tonight and was on the phone for 15 minutes with tech support. She told me to register with the DNC list for one thing (which I hadn't, somehow) but she said she added a layer of filtering and SPAM protection to my account. I mean, maybe? I'm skeptical, but she says it was done.

All that said, haven't received a spam text since I called a couple hours ago :dontknow:

It's been almost a week, and I haven't gotten a spam text or call. It's a goddamn miracle.

Thanks, guess I need to call them then. I've been on DNC list forever, but maybe I don't have this filtering on my account.

Why would you need to call for them to add more spam protection, why wouldn't everyone just get that? Weird.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

The obvious answer? They plan to monetize it at some point in the future.

Future? they already sell your number and anything else they can get their hands on.

Yes, today they sell the number to the spam companies, then they will monetize blocking the spam companies they already sold your number too. Will probably then let spam come through in another way, then create a gold tier spam blocking service to upsell you into.

In the job market, its like pulling teeth trying to get information from recruiters. The slow trickle of information to let you know just how soul sucking and awful the job will be is hilarious.

My line of work is one of the most in demand at the time (digital product manager), I'm getting hit up regularly by recruiters non-stop and I've learned I have the power. I ask my questions right up front and if they can't answer them I tell them good luck, good bye. I'm also fortunate I'm not actively looking.

When I have a job I take great pride in NEVER responding to their emails or phone calls (I literally hang up in their face as soon as they say who they are). Because they are so **** horrible to deal with and non-responsive when I am actually looking for a job and need them.

And you would think they would remember it and hold it against me that I hung up in their face?
Nup, not at all. When they need me for a job interview they will kiss my ass just the same. Zero pride, they're just corporate muppets with sales targets to meet.

****. Them.

Meanwhile in Melbourne, Australia, we are having a heatwave.
And during the heatwave, I kid you not, it just randomly started raining icecubes. The type of icecubes that make dimples in cars. That lasted about half an hour, during which time the temperature didn't drop one bit.

Heatwave and icecubes. Only in Australia, mate.

Nothing like a good hail storm when you need a new roof. I have yet to pay for a roof in my life (7th house-I think). Hail always saves the day.

Also, there's a decent chance my current roof will outlive me, so I think I'm going to die having never paid for a roof. Which is nice.

I think it's literally impossible for the Australian Open to occur without (from what I hear) an ungodly heatwave overtaking the area and making all players and spectators miserable.

Were we aware Zora Stephenson is doing Olympics reporting (qualifying, at least) for NBC Sports? I missed ski qualifying last week so just watching...and she popped up out of nowhere.

Imagine if Pat Connaughton took a couple of years off to play baseball after this season and then came back and won an MVP. That's what I'm seeing when Ash Barty dominates tennis. Makes no sense.

Everyhing about recruiters is a joke to me. I applied to a job twice (2020 and then 2021 thinking I still had a good shot). I got on the phone with her and she was like, "oh wait, you already interviewed for this? Let me talk to the person you interviewed with to see what the feedback was and I'll get back to you." Never heard from her again. Thought a year was a solid gap to try again. Then to add insult to injury, a different recruiter hit me up for the same job 3 months later

I haven't watched much tennis for a while, but the best comparison I can make watching her repeatedly dismantle her opponents was that it was like prime Federer.

She very rarely makes mistakes or even loses control of a point. She's a tennis robot. It was frankly shocking to witness.

I was thinking Martina Hingis kidnapped Barty and sacrificed her to some kind of god and got to take over her body for another run.

They look at 100 people a day and they don't remember jack ****.

What annoys me most is that I have to talk to them about some highly technical jobs and they really have no clue about anything really. If you look at their background they're like former admin or burned out sales people most of them. But I need them to make the first screening because I just can't look at 100 CVs. And they're just sitting there interviewing engineers and accountants and nodding like they know what they're talking about.
