Fotis St wrote:Welcome back Thanasis.
Your skills are so unappreciated here , Bud held you back my brother cause of your name in the back. Though you deserved more minutes for a least one season to see what you got ... he was afraid of being called out for playing you cause of your name. You deserved it, it was denied by Bud, BUT you kept your smile at the bench, waiving that towel for Giannis and teammates. You sacrificed your basketball self in order to stay close and protect Giannis. Those who know , just know ... You are an amazing brother . Welcome back

I agree with this sentiment overall. I also remember Bud chewing out Thanasis in front of the entire bench. I couldn’t hear the words but Bud’s facial expressions were to me, uncalled for, and something I had not seen Bud do that to any of the other players.

Bud made sure Thanasis wouldn’t play till almost the last possible feasible point in the game when there was no way he could show his skills. I felt he was treated unfairly by Bud.

I didn’t like the Bud firing thinking it was unfair especially since his brother died at that time, affecting his performance. Note that the Bucks lost game 5 with the Heat in the last 3 minutes not because of Bud but because of awful plays by Jrue and Khris. By the way, pg Giannis had a triple double in that game while returning from injury.

I liked Bud but I absolutely didn’t like the way he treated Thanasis.

I hope AG treats Thanasis with more respect.

hes not even the least worst player on the bucks unless you have no idea about the nba

ffs when a guy is untouchable in trades do you even realize how stupid it sounds to call him "the worst player in the league"

What lol? Least worst player? Thanasis isn’t untouchable. He’s Giannis’ older brother. That’s it.

And who on the Bucks last year was worse than him? That’s a joke.

since hes arrived weve let other guys come and go like flies on ****. if somebody calls up trying to trade for thanasis with less valuable players we hang up the phone. as far as salary filler hes worth 10 times his salary. wed consider him in lillard packages id assume but very few others.

so like the other part of my post... if you dont get this.... like are you even an nba fan? basic intellect and understanding of the nba makes the value of thanasis and his goon/motivator/mascot/brother role obvious

I personally can’t think of anyone with less NBA level ability than Thanasis. If one of you can find a player with less discernible skill, I’ll be impressed. Again, we all know why he’s here…but let’s not delude ourselves into thinking that he isn’t worthless on the court.

Cool. That's not what anyone's arguing.

Yep, Heat have made the Finals now a number of years with Udonis Haslem on that roster. The difference is Riley found guys like Martin, Strus, Vincent, etc. etc, whereas Horst is still dinking around with guys like Lindell Wigginton.

That would be the difference, yes.

Arguing semantics about the worst player(s) in the league is why i keep coming back.

If the price of keeping Giannis around/happy is having Thanasis at the end of the bench then oh well.

So let’s say Goodwin and Riley went too far and the market for Dame has opened up.

That and Zach Lowe’s right that the Wolves might trade KAT for Jrue straight up.

Bucks have some combination of a 2028 swap, 2029 first, 2030 swap, and Bobby / Pat (who Portland might want back) / Allen / MarJon to incorporate into a multi-team trade in addition.

I think all the times I have watched Thanasis go sit and talk to Giannis when he looks frustrated is worth keeping him around.

Don't disagree. Just wish he'd do it as an assistant coach

I've said this before but calling him a culture guy like Haslem is disrespectful to Udonis Haslem and any other end of bench guy who earned the right to ride the end of the bench to end their careers.

GHOSTofSIKMA wrote:just posted this in the general board but want to post here as well

every player in the league is there for their genetics and thansis is no different except different genetics are being valued.

id also say hes a throwback to the time in the league where goons were valued and every team had one. thanasis is on the list of GOAT goons. he often gets into it with the other teams best player like a good goon should. that player retaliates and potentially gets thrown off their game. only this time it gets better because giannis takes it personally and his backup battery gets engaged.

thanasis deserves every dollar he gets from us and he absolutely isnt there just to keep giannis happy. hes there to motivate giannis while he potentially gets somebody else thrown out. the goon role is an important one in all sports and thanasis even tho everybody else in the league has figured out thats what he is... giannis still hasnt. its a great dynamic for us

If Thanasis was good enough to be called a goon we wouldn't have these arguments every couple of weeks about his value to the team.
