For some weird reason some people liked what they did at the deadline, lol.

Look at the protections on the picks they traded

If they pick top 4 this year (like ~30% chance that happens) they keep the pick and it’s top 3 protected next year, but that would also push the top 4 protected 2023 pick back to 2024.

There’s a crazy scenario where Orlando doesn’t get a single first round pick in that trade if the Bulls are terrible/lucky the next 4 years

13.9% chance they're in the top 4 as of today. I feel like them not making the playoffs or potentially even the play-in after being in that position at the time the trades were made would not recommend the path they've chosen. Raptors and Wizards both a game behind them for the 10th spot now.

The ABA is the last great mystery, for bball fans. On one hand, you had prime Dr J, young Moses Malone, David Thompson, etc doing things no one had seen on a basketball court. On the other hand, none of it was televised and attendance was modest. So it still wasn’t really seen. Its like outlaw basketball meets bigfoot. All with 70’s style and street aesthetics. There are photos of Larry Brown in fur coats, there were leisure suits, there were games played where visiting teams never had their uniforms arrive, there were nickel beer nights gone horribly wrong, once the all star mvp won a horse as a prize and it promptly died from neglect... The ABA was the last wonderfully weird and underexposed moment in pro basketball.

Sounds like Division 1 basketball in Serbia.

I have been to Serbia, it is a wonderful frontier of giant, drunk, large humans who seem to do whatever they want. One of my great regrets in life, was I did not get to see a basketball game while there.

Oddly enough, in all my travels, the Philippines is the most basketball crazed place I have ever been and its not particularly close.

Wtf, Aldridge just up and retired lmao

Edit: Ok so it looks like this is related to a heart issue, so that’s not funny, that really sucks

That's too bad, hate it when a guy has to make the choice under threat like that. Good luck to him.

Sucks when a really fun and unique team (like the Nuggets) that made an “all in” move (Gordon) has a season altering injury (Murray). I will still talk myself in to the Jazz and Blazers having a chance to knock out a hobbled Laker team. But I fear the Nuggets were the only team that would have.

Glad they caught the heart issue before it was too late. I have a lot of fond memories of watching the Dame-Wes-Batum-Aldridge-Lopez Blazer teams. Hope he gets through this quickly and enjoys retirement.

Yeah, you can put this one on Shams. Why he didn't just retweet LMA is a total mystery!*

*It is not.

The Blazers will get destroyed by LAL but Utah has a real shot if their full squad is healthy imo. Still think LAL wins but think it goes 6 or 7.

I go back and forth on this but I still can’t rule out the Clippers.

Nuggets replacing Murray with Austin Rivers. That is...........not ideal.

Very happy we decided not to go in that direction. Teague has been pretty good so far.

I legit thought it had something to do with it. He sounded a bit dejected after that game talking about how terrible his defense was.

Wonder if LMA’s condition is something he’s had for while. And did he recently have a Covid shot that might have thrown off heart rhythm?

This may be a good thing basketball wise for New Jersey in that it seemed like LMA would take time from more effective players.

Denver can take solace in the fact that there all in move was really just a way to dump that terrible Gary Harris contract. He'll make $22 million next year, and he's a minimum salary caliber player.

Gary Harris and Donte are about the same level.

I'd take Donte, though.

I'm gonna go ahead and keep a sliver of hope alive for Denver still. If only because MPJ's post All-Star break numbers might actually be sustainable. Dude is just such a gifted and effortless scorer.
