Willard to Villanova. B10 loses a good coach to what sounds like the school somehow not having enough NIL and other budget.

Flagg just turned 18.
He's the 3rd best prospect since LeBron.
I'll say it again, Flagg is rich man's Jimmy Butler. Stylistically and approach wise. Absurdly young. For anyone who isn't sure if that's generational, think of the best Jimmy Butler has ever been when he was dominating in the NBA finals, and then make that player better at every single aspect of the game. Flagg is 100% a better prospect than Wemby, I don't look at them as being on the same tier of basketball prospects because Wemby's offense is more style than substance, he's mostly a tall jump shooter that people like to ascribe extra value to because he has the ability to do certain skilled things at extreme height.

Wemby’s defense is ridiculous. Can Flagg play D, yes. Can he alter everything in sight, no.
My issue with Wemby is/was the body shape. Guys like that always have injury issues. Too much torque on the tendons. That said, this blood clot issue came out of nowhere.

I've thought of that comparison. Don't know if I said it publicly. He's a later career version. About at his mobility level in recent playoffs. He's definitely faster than this year, during which Khris could hang on savvy.
MikeIsGood wrote:He's underlooked, and I'd take him too. I think he likely turns into 'just a shooter' though. Fundamentals are great but I'm not convinced he moves well enough. Our prime Middleton was both crafty but also long, which helped him become a difference maker on D. Great on the boards. Boxes Kon doesn't check.
He's not just a shooter. He's a 3-level scorer. He finishes inside w/ strength, fakes, touch. He's getting his shots off against big guys. And he has very good passing vision, accuracy, w/ ability to see over the d. He's attacking closeouts & more. When Flagg went out, Kon had the ball in his hands more, and won conference tourney outstanding player. And as I said, Khris was still a positive when his mobility/d declined.

I don't know your perspective on this, but keep in mind Flagg's a re-classified hs senior playing this tourney on a sprained ankle. Don't think he'd have been playing if it weren't their playoffs.
He has a better touch, passing, d, physical combo than almost all of them. He statistically had a better frosh season than almost all, and he did it as a hs senior. He improved a ton throughout this year. It's also revisionist history on some of those guys. Flagg was virtual unanimous #1 for yrs. Most of those were maybes or #2s. I think he's #3 after LeBron & Wemby. Best college prospect I've seen (since the 90s).

Dude probably going top 10 now. Better on D then I expected.

He's a great all-around player. I don't see a world-smasher.
What I do appreciate is people properly using "generational" in this context. If you (and much of the board) believes he's this good and rank him among the twenty years of prospects as such, that's a generational dude.

They've always had him mocked in the 7 to 10 range. As someone who only started watching him a lot the last three weeks, the positional defense is the amazing thing. On the vast majority of plays, he stays in front of his man no matter where the offensive player goes. A stocky white dude isn't supposed to do those things. And then only when the time is right, does he use the arms to try and swat away the ball.
On offense he's shifty like Bern notes above. I see a lot of Manu there.

Re: 24/25 College Basketball
Manu? Man. I hope like hell I'm wrong and you guys are right about Knueppel. I'd love to have pride in a WI kid in the league. Like I said, I'd still take him here even with what I think he is (which is all a moot point - he's been a lottery pick since like December).
Son of a bitch, we have to listen to Lappas again?

Re: 24/25 College Basketball
I don't see Manu on either end for Kon. I thought of Budget Luka, offensively. IDK if that's as instructive as Khris. The measurement will tell a lot. My guess is he's 6'6" by the old standard, 6'5 the new one. That's an inch or 2 shorter than Khris & Luka. The reach for d is a different conversation.
But offensively, even if he's moderately shorter than these comparisons, being functionally fat has benefit for deft shooters who have deception & enough ball-handling. Brunson is 6'1 & look how he carves out space, shoots over the d, & draws fouls.

Akins and Holloman are 1-16. 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 2 turnovers, 1-16 combined. I mean, good luck winning with two absolute deadweights in the E8.

Re: 24/25 College Basketball
That hurt my bracket quite a bit. Don't think I can win any of them anymore, but if Duke beats Florida in the final (my prediction) I think I can still finish top 3 in my money pool and work pool.
Picking pretty chalk was super boring, but I just didn't see where the upsets were really coming from this year. And I guess it paid off.

2nd time ever all 4 #1 seeds made the final four since they expanded to 64 teams in '85.

Yeah I'll buy it.

Re: 24/25 College Basketball
I think a good comp for Flagg is actually Tatum. He seems more developed in his body than Tatum at that age, but I feel like he has a very similar all around game that Tatum has. I don't know if I see elite tier with him yet, but Tatum is basically there and I think that would be a good result.
