There were affair rumors that I heard about, but I wonder if this wasn't his plan all along. Forcing Barry to give Gard a chance by leaving mid season. Hard to see him limp away like this.

Only reason I'm surprised is that the rewards for this current group of players likely won't be seen until next year assuming Nigel returns. But yeah unless another reason pops up it's probably to give Gard time to prove himself.

This is about the best case scenario for Gard. If he had the job the whole season he might be getting some heat for the way the team has played, but because Ryan was still there it is accepted that it's because of the personnel. Plus Alvarez is skeptical about hiring him so it gives him an extended audition.

Regardless of how it ended he had an amazing run and I'm very appreciative of what he did for the program. I just hope it doesn't take a giant step backwards.

Really sucks that he chose to/has to go out like this. Whatever is going on, it feels wrong that he isn't going to get a proper send-off.

Barry probably doesn't mind this scenario. Unlikely Gard gets them to top 4 in the conference, so then his "tenure" is considered a failure by UW standards and Barry can bring in his own guy.

I know very little about Gard's coaching ability, but I'm already rooting against him. And that's Bo's fault.

He got hissy prior to the season because Gard wasn't crowned his successor when Alvarez insinuated he would broaden his search when Bo retired.

This is an "F You" to Barry. He holds the power at the end of the day.

BTW, I'm frustrated (see above) by the way this ended. He's made Gard bigger than the program. Not too cool, IMO; but classic Bo.
