China has still been locked down in many respects for over two months now. If you extrapolate that out, we’d be talking about best case resuming on May 15th. At that point, you’d have to figure out how to reconfigure everything and take it into July. Maybe possible, but who knows.

Gobert coming down with this just changes the entire equation on pro sports.

Meanwhile...
As sporting leagues around the world grapple with how to respond to the coronavirus outbreak, the Chinese Basketball Association has told American players to plan to return as early as this weekend and prepare for the league to resume in early April.

CBA team officials are discussing several formats for how to resume play, sources told ESPN, including hosting all 20 teams in one or two cities and playing a truncated regular season and playoff schedule, without fans.

Players ESPN spoke with have expressed concerns about whether they will be allowed to return to the U.S. after the conclusion of the league, and whether they will be forced to undergo another process of being quarantined upon arrival.

Some agents said that CBA teams that their clients play for have said that if the players don't return they could be banned from the league for life and agents could lose their licences there for two to three seasons.

Removing some of the off days during playoff series would certainly help. They have an insane amount of days off between games to begin with. You are right on China though, they are finally starting to open ports and business again- they reported the first case in November and shut down around 2 months ago. Would not be surprised if it ends up being no fans at all games/ cancelled.

Question: can Gobert be suspended from future contests just for being the dumbest dumb f*ck of all dumb f*cks?

Between this and his pretend crying over his all star “snub” last year he’s quickly become one of the biggest douches in sports.

Could this legit change the landscape of the NBA schedule moving forward? Say the season is delayed by 6 weeks.....now we are ending mid/late July.....NBA starts Christmas day and all is right with the NBA world
Why should you go to jail for a crime someone else noticed? You don't need double talk... You need Bob Loblaw.

I’m assuming the Celtics are at the Pfister or Hyatt right now. Per league rules you have to be in the visiting team city the night before. Given the Celtics not playing tonight, they probably got into town earlier today.

Celtics are now on quarantine based on who they’ve recently played.

Your stipulation is irrelevant because the virus doesn't confine itself to a CITY or REGION.

But it's infection rate is not the same throughout an entire country. If hospitals are projected to reach capacity in Chicago, you don't need to send doctors to Detroit too.

This is the worst example of ignorance I’ve seen in my life. Show some f*cking respect. People are dying around the world. Just because it isn’t happening in your backyard (yet) doesn’t mean it isn’t important.

Be better.

I would imagine they will resume the regular season or the playoffs with empty arenas. The NBA would lose massive amounts of $$$ if they canceled the season all together.

This sucks. Wish it had happened sooner.

Thousands dead, seems kinda important.

There might be something to it but this has 100% made even worse in the age of social media

It sucks because we've had such a good season, but there are more important things than sports, and these guys have families and children and given how they live are exposed to many more people than most.

I personally hope anyone who gets this pulls through ok. This sucks for Rudy Gobert and any other victims of this than it does for me.

We shutting down the league every time a player gets the flu then?

If the flu didn’t have a vaccine or possible end in sight. Most likely yea...

4500 dead out of 120,000

35x the mortality rate of flu
The issue with that number is the 120,000 is likely horribly inaccurate as tons of people have most likely had it and only shown minor symptoms and never got checked out assuming they only had a cold

Fair enough. I edited my post to simply say that alot of the hysteria over this has been made worse by social media. (we can debate how much and how warranted but it has)

You got me before I was able to though so well played good sir. Well played

Which is one of the reasons everything is being shut down. People are spreading the disease because they have no idea they are carrying it. Either the symptoms are too mild for healthy people to think it's anything more than a cold or they are in the long incubation period and haven't shown any symptoms yet.

Seems weird for a random dude with no expertise to downplay a pandemic that is currently occurring because he has a hunch based on a half-remembered news story. Irresponsible, even. Think you may have made your own point about social media.
