Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
Question for car folk:
Woke up to my car not starting, a jump did the trick and I drove it to a shop where it wouldn't restart after turning off. Battery was fairly corroded and roughly 4 years old. I can't shake the feeling that it's my alternator even though everything else was fine up until this morning. I'm also fairly OCD with my dome lights and double/triple check after locking my car. What are the odds an alternator goes out overnight? Car has roughly 85k on it.

Inadequate perception I reckon it's from the Valium

Yes alternators can fail suddenly. They will usually last 100k or so but 85k is not unreasonable.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Believe around 4 years old (replaced it shortly after moving but 3.5-4 is my guess). Never had problems starting, everything was running smooth as eggs up until this morning. At this point I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
That isn't really thst old for a battery.. Usually weak batteries give you more issues in the winter but bad cables or terminals can do pretty crazy things to. I would guess it's the alternator or bad terminal. I doubt it'll be crazy expensive regardless.vital_signs wrote:jute2003 wrote:How old is the battery?vital_signs wrote:Question for car folk:

A couple ways you could check that easily. Run your car tonight start it up and while in park press the gas down and look at your headlights if they dim likely going bad alternator. Also you can carefully remove the negative terminal while the car is running a good alternator will keep your car running. Only way to know 100 percent it to check it with a multimeter.

Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
Currently looking to change careers. Is there a good place to find a list of companies based out of Milwaukee? I’ve found like top 10s, top 20s but that’s about it.
Also are sites like Indeed, Glassdoor, Ziprecruiter worth my time or not really?

Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
I've had good experiences with Indeed. Don't know about Glassdoor or Zip Recruiter.

I would use them all. Most jobs are posted on all of the boards but it never hurts to check them all and/or post your resume on them. You'll get a lot of crap responses but just weed them out.

I'm not going to give it away, but you HAVE to watch it until the end. Tremendous meme potential.

I'm skeptical that too much is on marketing/getting recognizable people instead of the content. $15/mth doesn't seem horrible but definitely won't get as much use compared to another streaming service. Am i going to actually watch a business lecture by Bob Iger or watch reruns of the office? Might give it a spin for a couple months.

Madison has InBusiness magazine that will list the top 50-100 companies in different industries in Madison. Not sure if MKE has one but it's been awesome to see the Madison ones as there are some I didn't know existed.

Why are you changing careers? And why are you limiting it to Milwaukee companies? IMHO, I think you are better off researching careers - what the job entails, pay and ease of getting a job, etc. There are a ton of either smaller, sub-entities of larger companies or B2B companies you have never heard up that might be great fit. Like, sure ManPower is a good company to work for, but are they hiring for what you actually want to do? And even if you get a job there, so much is dependent on team and department that just asking about a company won't tell you much about a specific work environment.
