Because they are going to win the NBA Cup during this time.

Ajax and Green are so fun

Ajax brings energy from another universe

I'm still baffled how Green has become such a good defender, he locked up Jimmy a few times, even Jrue struggled with that.

Hopefully we can buy really bad knockoff Cup Championship shirts in gas station parking lots like we could when we won the real championship in 2021.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think the narrative that he was a bad defender initially was not correct. I remember talking with BigO a couple of times about how his man-to-man D was quite reasonable. He seemed to struggle more in the team defense. In his defense, most of the team was at that stage, thanks Griff.

Ajax has modified his game from last season. He doesn't look to shoot unless wide open from 3-point or at the rim. He gives the ball up to others in the back court.

Ajax's unforced turnover with just over 30-seconds left with a two possession lead was brutal. If he performs better later in the season in similar situations, we might look back on this as a building block. We should expect more brutal building blocks from a talented but inexperienced player.

Yep. Similar to the Packers young guys last year on offense. Let them make mistakes early and late in the season, hopefully, take off

We didn't respond well or quickly enough to them doubling Dame. I'd have liked to see some Wright next to Dame minutes to give Dame an outlet to someone who could handle the ball and attack the seams.

We saw Wright next to dame quite a bit. Wright can’t attack off the dribble, and he can’t really make pull-up shots. He basically has no offensive game, and he functions like the low usage 2-guard he is.

I like his defensive energy, and how often he gets his hand on the ball, but he’s built to function alongside stars, not in place of them.

We have a pretty clear lack of creators past our big 3. That makes sense. We’re a top heavy team, but it would be nice to add a cheap guy with some of those skills.

I really like RP’s idea to target Ayo. He’d probably eat up most of Wright and Trent’s minutes. He’s a good defender, and is quicker than anyone on our team.

They played 7 minutes together.

But yeah, I agree, that's an obvious area to seek an upgrade.

The claim isn't that Wright is some offensive maestro. It's that one of the limited situations that he could have some offensive value is when Dame is being blitzed late in the shot clock without a Giannis or Khris bail out option.

Ajax lacked control and composure in those circumstances and Green can't really handle the ball and attack late in the shot clock.

Middleton sitting out is turning out the be a blessing in disguise. If Khris plays from game 1, Trent likely just plays through his slump, and Green and Ajax never get their shot. We're stuck starting what has proven to be our 3rd best SG, and the team never meets is defensive potential.

That's a good point. Our team is so old, that while other teams have young NBA players stressing over exam week, our team has NBA players helping their kids stressing over exam week.

I think Ajax and Green would still be in the rotation on some level. I think Trent was moved out of the starting lineup to improve the 2nd unit. Green was added to that 2nd unit because he was the only offensive firepower available. The 2nd unit was getting destroyed during the early season implosion.

Middleton's return will present its own challenges, as the rotation adjustment will ripple through the roster, beyond the vet core of Giannis, Lillard, Lopez & Portis.

I think Middleton will allow a minutes reduction for Giannis & Lillard. Both will be more effective at the end of games if they have not spent so much time on the floor earlier. I felt Budenholzer kept Giannis fresh by limiting his minutes.

Another benefit is that Middleton will give Rivers the option of giving Giannis and Lillard some rest games off. But whether Middleton is taking minutes from Giannis, Lillard, or role players, it will require adjustments from everyone, as his game is notably different from the two superstars.

I agree that Middleton's absence has created room for player growth. Ajax and Green are certainly being thrust into every situation, where their use might be more situational if Middleton was available as a playmaker.

The most impactful beneficiary of Middleton's absence might be Rollins. Too bad about his shoulder.

Quick hits:

1) Green defends well against the bigger players. He had a rough time against Butler, because Butler leans into you as he's driving and always gets the call.

2) I'm not sold on Trent's defense, but Doc seems to like him better than Dame at the end of games on defense.
