I didn't think she was anything special in Annihilation, but she was incredible in Closer and Black Swan. MPDGs are bad, but damn if she didn't kill it as maybe the defining example in Garden State.

Meh. I dont hate her or anything and I'll admit I liked her in Black Swan but I just dont think she has any range at all.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

With the break in all the good TV I'm doing something I've been meaning to do for years, catch up on Supernatural. I feel like since I invested seven or eight seasons I should probably see how it ends. I'm starting on season nine and I'm honestly surprised that I'm liking it a lot. But LOL there are gonna be six more seasons after this one.

I'll always remember this one as my first post-college show. That was 15 years ago and it's still going!

I did the Supernatural catch up a few years ago and now I realise I'm 5 seasons behind again.

This is an understandable take so long as you've never seen "Black Swan," "Jackie," "Closer," "Annihilation," "Vox Lux..."

You mean all those movies where she played the same character?

Watched the three Portman movies with the kids before we went to the new Star Wars tonight. Daisey Ridley who plays Rey is so vastly superior to Portman. And it wasn’t just the scripts.

Mandalorian did more in one season in the areas of character development, emotional stakes and coherent storytelling than all of Eps 1-3 and 7-9. This and Rogue One are perfect storytelling in this universe. Thankful the Skywalker saga is (hopefully) done.

Spoiler:
Now that they’ve killed off Ben Solo there’s not a thing from that franchise I’m still invested in.

The deaths of Kuiil and IG-11 were more gripping than any in episodes 1-3 and 7-9.

Disney would be smart to get Favreau in as Feige-y of a role as possible with the Star Wars universe. Great storyteller with reverence and respect for the audience and source material.

Did not think the second season of "You" would be better than the first but here we are.

Uncut Gems was every bit as satisfying as I hoped it would be.

Almost halfway through it and I'm liking it a lot. Big difference this season is Beck was awful and Love is wonderful.

I just want something new from the main series of movies. Give me something from Revan and Malak era (Jedi Civil War). Tired of the skywalkers at this point.

Now that I've caught up on The Mandalorian, I think I'm going to start Watchmen.

Catching up with my Netflix watching as of late:

- I Think You Should Leave is just the right amount of dumb and awkward humor. Legit had me on the floor laughing for some of the skits.

- The Irishman was pretty much exactly what I expected. Scorcese is still a master at narration and pace, but the de-aging CGI couldn't hide the actors' age at all. Not only the movement, but the speech and facial expressions just felt awkward at times. Pesci is the only one that felt natural because he was pretty much an old man throughout the timeline.

- Sound and Fury was weird as **** but I absolutely loved it. Suppose this could go in the re: Music thread as well, but this is by far my favorite Sturgill Simpson album and the animation was beautifully crafted to fit the story. Gave me some serious Heavy Metal vibes. I hope more musicians do cool stuff like this and make album-long music videos.

Okay, it took 8 episodes but I’m in on The Mandalorian.

Spoiler:
The team coming together at the end against a common enemy and floating down that river of lava like they were on the river Styx sold it for me. It’s got some classic Greek hero’s journey stuff that I always dig. Add a muted tragedy with the IG droid fulfilling its purpose and sacrificing itself. That was a nice touch. I’ll hang in there for the next season. Good job Favreau. Enjoyed Taika Waititi’s direction as well. I really enjoy his stuff. He seems like a cool human being.

Yeah, young De Niro just looked like old De Niro with black hair. You can't CGI out his old man posture or gait. Also, we know what young De Niro looked like from his movies in the 70s and 80s. He wasn't that in The Irishman.

I'll also say that 3.5 hours is too long. No movie should require two sittings to finish, IMO.

I also encourage people to look up who the two stormtroopers were played by.

That whole scene was the best thing SW has done in 30 years.

On Taika Waititi- if people haven't caught it, check out What We Do in the Shadows (the movie, I also enjoyed the tv show a lot but check out the movie first so you get the in jokes). Wonderful.
