I usually respect Hollinger's opinions but yeah, both those numbers are crazy. You'd basically have to think that Donte is the SG version of Draymond.

Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

For some context, he's not projecting those are the contracts they'll sign or get offered, he's giving the EEV, which is his own calculation of the estimated value of the player. You can infer from this that he believes DDV will be a steal and Grayson will not be, based on the actual contracts they'll get.

I would guess he's also got Draymond as a relative bargain.

4 years $99 million? Maybe time to re-evaluate your formula.

There is no other team in the league paying DDV $99 million over four-years, even if they acquired him from the Bucks for free. Like Hollinger, but he's off his rocker on this one.
Fwiw I think he's also off his rocker on that Grayson number. I cannot imagine a world where Grayson signs for 3/16
Yeah his evaluation system is way off, but i hope Grayson's agent believes in it.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions - Open Scrimmage 10/3
I enjoyed last nights game. My thoughts...
Hill - I am a little worried. Not overly worried, but a little worried. I hope he is not this year's DJA signing. If he's ineffective my hope is that DDV is healthy and can take backup PG minutes as we have depth at SG.
Nwora - Last night he did the "other things", and did them above expectation. Some good passes and team ball. He seems to get the open elbow shot with ease after a fake and/or dribble from the top key a la CP3. He actually has been slumping on some shots he usually makes.
Mamu - Our third center, look no further in my opinion. For a third center you just hope he has some sort of skillset, and Mamu definitely does. Him being on a 2 way will keep him active. If Bobby or Brook goes down, slot him in regular minutes. Very unselfish, hard-wroking guy. He will grow on his teammates.

Thank you for clarifying that Hollinger uses his own Professor Frink modeled computer formula for these.

By the way, Mamu looks like he's been working his ass off with Suki and Co. Looks a lot better than he did in SL. The burst attacking closeouts was noteworthy. Great start for him, on and off the court.
The Herd have a nice core, especially if they have Jemerrio. G League draft is 10/23 at noon central, set your alarms.

Hollinger does not pay attention to the landscape of the NBA enough
I remember him doubting Donte's ability to even be a rotation player after his rookie year and he noted that "Donte spent the season going back and forth between the Bucks bench and the Oshkosh Herd"
Like, dude never even spent a minute with the Herd and Hollinger didn't even spend 10 seconds to figure out he was way wrong

Donte did play 4 games for the Herd when he was rehabbing.

Looks like I'm the dummy! Completely forgot that.
But, I still don't like Hollinger takes in his post Grizzlies return to media, he's not paying that close of attention

Whoa, happy birthday to me because the G League draft falls on my birthday. As stated in RGM bylaws, I get to shtpost for the entire day without consequence. Looking forward to see where heralded prospect Haywood Jablomi lands.

DDV getting 4/100 would be one of the weirdest contracts ever lol

MVP2110 wrote:ReasonablySober wrote:Hollinger on what our guys probably deserve on their contract extensions:Donte DiVincenzo, Bucks (17th pick), EEV: four years, $99 million
DiVincenzo is one of the most fascinating contractual situations for me because it seems clear he’s a lot more valuable to another team than he is to the current incarnation of the Bucks. DiVincenzo hints at being a plus shot creator with his handle and burst, but the Bucks don’t need that from him. With just average deep shooting, meanwhile, he doesn’t quite fit snugly as an off-ball piece. Finally, paying him this kind of money would be problematic for a Bucks team that already lies deep in the tax due to the huge salaries of its three stars.
Nonetheless, he’s by far the Bucks’ best young player, and the numbers suggest he’s worth paying a handsome sum. He may end up being an interesting restricted free agent in 2022 … if he isn’t traded first.Grayson Allen, Bucks (21st pick), EEV: three years, $16.5 million
Because of Allen’s age (he turns 26 this week), my method was emphatic about not giving him a fourth year. On a three-year extension, however, he could provide halfway decent value at a price around the room exception. Allen represents a discount option for the Bucks relative to DiVincenzo, offering more shooting around their stars but dramatically less of everything else. However, players at this price point rarely extend their deals.
What an absolutely wild difference between those 2 contracts
Look I’m a DDV Homer. But 100 mill is not right lol.
still learning the game

Yea, IDK if they're allowed right now but if they are and they put a 4/60 in front of him I don't think he could sign it fast enough. And that's not me saying they should, just that in his current situation I don't think he's gambling that 60 mil. Wouldn't surprise me if 4/40 did it too

I’d toss 4/20 at him and see if he takes it. He’s on a scooter and has never had a fully healthy season including playoffs. Anything he turns down is a huge gamble because if he gets hurt this year, he’s only getting 1+1 prove it deals just above the minimum. Most teams don’t care than one statistic thinks he is Jordan level off ball on defense.
I’d probably lean towards retaining Grayson if they had to choose one because he seems to be able to stay on the court more and his shooting unlocks the offense more. Making teams pay for throwing extra bodies at Giannis is the most valuable thing they can do. Unless someone is unplayable defensively of course.

Donte is making 4.7 right now and his QO is for 6.6M. 4 for 20 is WAY too low. I think you're off base that he'd be getting 1+1 prove it deals above the minimum. He'd get a 1+1 at around 15-17M total pretty easily. He's the type of guy that teams take shots on. Caruso got 37 million, that's probably close to your baseline on a long term deal otherwise he'll just hit free agency. Hell, Zach Collins played 11 games last season, re-fractured his foot in June, and still got 3/23.
I'd definitely put that Caruso deal in front of him and be comfortable with it.

I see Hollinger has moved away from box-score composites to +/- variants but has stuck to his guns by guessing how guys play rather than watching them.
