Russ shouldn't even have one.

If Russ shouldn't have one then Curry shouldn't have two.

Also seems weird that Westbrook and Durant would be given the two best odds to win the MVP. I'd have Kawhi and Lebron as the top-2 guys pretty easily. Both are gonna put up insane numbers and win the usual 50-60 games. While every other top candidate (Harden, Westbrook, Durant) now has another star player (Paul, PG13, Curry) to take away touches and cut into their votes.

Curry had his team win 20+ more games in those seasons.

To the broader point I agree about him having two, but I could at least hear that argument. Russ shouldn't have even been top 3 last season over Harden, LBJ, and Kawhi.

Don't see any great bets here, but I think Kawhi wins it.

Bill Simmons and Kevin O'Connor both agreed on a podcast that Brog/Mid/Monroe + an unprotected 1st for Kyrie and Shump... isn't enough for Cleveland. Always was a big Simmons fan...but holy hell has he lost touch on reality.

I can't remember if that was brought up before or after them talking about Kyrie's finals performances but it makes sense from their pov. Our guys are seen as role players. Kyrie is seen as a player who wins games in the finals.

Cleveland is still in the delusional phase of what they expect in return for Kyrie. As soon as they realize they're not getting a blue-chip guy like Porzingis, we'll see what offers they settle for, if any. I'm still betting on them mending the fences just enough to keep him around this season. Then when Lebron bolts again, they'll test the market next offseason.

A guy like Simmons should be smart enough to know that role players in the mold of Brog and Mid are exactly what Cle needs in the finals vs GSW. LBJ is the PG anyway. Yes they lose an offensive weapon/lead when LBJ sits, but the team cratered when LBJ sat last year too. I think good two players like Mid and Brogdon who can hit 3s is exactly what they need, and they're getting two back.

If I was going to bet on MVP, I would go with Harden. MVP is such a difficult award to predict because it's entirely driven by the media narrative. It rarely goes to the best player. I could see Houston competing for the #1 seed and the media falling in love with Harden.

Yea I agree with them in the sense that Kyrie is a big time player, and I am in the camp that we should be extremely aggressive in pursuing him.... but there is not a chance in hell Cleveland turns down that offer. That's 3 starting caliber players + 1st + dumping a bad contract for Kyrie. Cleveland would nut their pants if we offered that.

So wade is on the way out.

Where does he end up? Cleveland seems the obvious place but I'm not sure how little he'd be willing to play for. San Antonio, Houston, Boston or even Minnesota back with Butler will probably be in the hunt aswell.

I won't even entertain Golden State.

It'll be interesting to see, realistically he'll have to accept a low pay check and likely a bench role. I think that is ideal for him right now but I'm not sure if he's ready to accept it. By wanting a buy out he is giving up his last 20+ mill year so maybe he's ready to do it in chase of another title.

Yeah, that was sad. I completely understand differences of opinion on players and trade packages. Part of the fun here. But it tells you he doesn't watch our team at all based on that comment. Adding those three from our team makes Cleveland better next year, not worse. And Monroe's double value as a huge expiring can't be overstated. Cav's could use that at the deadline to acquire Melo or PG or the like.

The best player every year is always gonna be subjective. I'd rather narrative factor in to the MVP award as opposed to simply giving it to the best player on the best team like the league has done so many years in the past (Rose in '11, Kobe in '08, Nash in '06, etc.).

When Simmons and bloggers argue a player's worth (i.e. Jordan vs LeBron) based on MVP awards, I always check out. Because there is more subjectivity in NBA MVP voting than most comprehend. Barkley's MVP was because people were sick of voting for Jordan, Nash (who I revere) got his MVP's because of how his unselfish style impacted the league... but he simply was not a better/more valuable basketball player than LeBron or Duncan at the time). LeBron got robbed a time or two. The league intentionally leaves the criteria ambiguous to fuel debates and columns and arguments.

But no one can make a case that the best player has won it every year, nor the most deserving. Heck, I don't even know what "most valuable" means.

So Peter Vecsey is back in the game. He's got a report out that the Pacers are filing tampering charges against the Lakers on Paul George from earlier this summer.

Get the Michael Jackson popcorn gif.

ETA: According to Vecsey league has lawyers interviewing Laker brass to find out what they might have said to PG13 and when they said it.

The lesson is don't **** with Kevin Pritchard. I suppose everyone now clams up, but I have to think one of the Buss kids or Magic will mess up their stories.

Since you can't put the PG13 toothpaste back in the tube, would think they'd fine the Lakers $250,000 and strip them of a couple draft picks if the league can prove a case. About every five years or so they need to make an example of someone to prove the rules still do exist.
