I think we got better options there than CJ McCollum on defense. I'm kind of hoping Dame won't be as bad defensively not having to carry the whole offense on his back while the franchise spins its wheels too, he should at least be engaged.

Yeah, go big with Pat, take the rebounding edge there and he's got size on most starting SGs. He can't really dribble but he's been improving getting to the basket. Also he's played with Dame/Giannis and can help with that learning curve.

Really not terribly worried about teams beating us with jump shots, and you're still not getting to the rim against Brook/Giannis any way.

also wing defenders way more important than smaller defensive guards, Jrue got killed by Jimmy and the Boston Js murder us. Checking Derrick White or old ass Kyle Lowry not as big of priority.

I think you are right, this team is going to be good if healthy, especially come playoffs. I'd rather go through the growing pains with Marjon and AJJ as the starting 2 then put Pat out there for now. Come playoffs, if the young guys haven't earned it, they can be cut out of the rotation, but we are way beyond the point of regular season being all that meaningful.

Get the young guys time and let's see how they can fit in with the rest of the roster, even if it is ugly and frustrating some times.

All im thinking is to let the guys run their games and see how it is. Keep eyes on the market for Dorian Finney Smith, Royce O'neal and hell, even bring PJ Tucker back if he got bought out.

I think this is exactly right. With Pat in the starting 5, I think we are small favorites in the East. With Marjon and AJJ as productive rotation pieces, I think we are pretty clearly ahead.

The target I have in mind is for one of them to approach 2021 Cam Johnson productivity

Comeon people stop with the extreme overhype on AJJ wtf this guy doesnt shoot has got nothing going for him on O no way on this team with chip aspirations AJJ is seeing the floor except in mop up time.He dodnt do anything in SL to kniw if hes even making this team.Marjon basically by default is the 2 but if the bucks need to rely on AJJ then pat marjon beasley are all hurt.Never seen this much hype on a rookie who well hasnt done anything

A few snippets from Nehm

“He’s got music playing, a lot of coaches don’t do that,” Payne said. “I just feel like he’s a player’s coach. I mean, he played, so he kind of understands the players a little bit better. Like some coaches, they’re just coaches. They ain’t never played. You can relate to him and he can relate to us. That’s cool to have in the locker room.”

After five seasons of Mike Budenholzer practices, the music — spun by DJ Shawna, the Bucks’ official in-arena DJ, in the northeast corner of the gym — might be the most obvious change. But it was far from the only different thing about a Griffin practice.

In his team’s first practice, Griffin told reporters he focused on his team’s “competitive spirit” and doing things that would foster competition between the players. Griffin helped out in that regard by confirming the Bucks have an open spot in the starting lineup alongside Damian Lillard, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez and that that spot will be earned. For Griffin, it goes beyond competing for spots in the rotation. It’s more about competing in general.

“I don’t like to stop and talk,” Griffin said. “I believe you learn by doing. We’ve just given them some basic principles, a foundation of how we want to play on the defensive end — that’s pressuring the ball, impacting bodies, being physical, protect the paint, contest shots and then block out.

“And then on the offensive end, we just want to play with a little bit more pace, get to our spots, so we gave them some basic principles out there, but today, I wanted to really play and you learn more to me by going through the actions. But it was great. I thought they responded very well. We had a couple one-on-ones, a tournament. Giannis won that tournament. He’s hard to stop one-on-one. But it was fun watching everybody in the gym.”

Forward Bobby Portis told reporters that a one-on-one game — like the one they played on Tuesday — is something the team probably only did once during his three years in Milwaukee under Budenholzer. Considering one-on-one was an activity they did on their first day under their new coach, returning players seem to think learning how Griffin wants to practice and play is going to keep them on their toes.

“Great coaching staff. Obviously, it’s a lot different than what we’re normally accustomed to, but it’s kind of refreshing a little bit,” Portis said. “Just to get a different feel coming in every day, don’t really know what to expect. For three years straight, I think we kind of knew what it was going to be like on a day-to-day basis.

“But now it’s kind of cool just not knowing how the day is going to go, what we’re going to do in practice, what he’s going to implement, what he’s going to do or draw up or whatever it is. And that’s kind of cool, especially as a basketball player, just being challenged and tested.”
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Regardless of position, who are our five best offensive players? Who are our five best defensive players?

You didn't comprehend my post. I'm not making any statement about whether or not I think AJJ or Marjon for that matter are likely to become productive rotation pieces. I'm saying that for us to really separate from other contenders, we need one of them to ascend.

The level that I think one of them needs to reach is 2nd year Cam Johnson which was 9.6/3.3/1.4 with 42/35/85 shooting splits in 24 MPG - extremely aspirational I guess.

Pat is who he is at this point and Beasley doesn't have any 2 way upside. I find it likely that neither AJJ or Marjon are even league average but crazier things have happened. AJJ is a spectacular athlete whose oft-discussed attribute is processing speed. I don't know if those things cover up for his skill deficiencies.

It's training camp and a team I grew up watching centered around Michael Redd just traded for Damian f**ing Lillard to pair with the greatest player in franchise history. Even though I wasn't, let us dream. Stop dampening people's excitement to make yourself feel better.

Agreed on offense.

Defense is tougher. I think Pat is probably someone that is in the top 4. I think the 5th could be between Dame/Marjon. Dame has the experience, but Marjon has the athleticism. We might even see AJJ creep up in to the top 5 if he can adjust to the real NBA.

Dame was asked about defense on media day and definitely sounded like someone who was very aware of his reputation and seemed very intent on changing it
