This move was an onus from ownership to save some money, nothing more. Don't expect any huge move to lessen the impact of how bad this one is.

And this is an uneducated take. :banghead:

If we're seriously targeting the JAG Martin brother then this certainly is starting to look like Doc's fingerprints are all over this. Dude still thinks 3-point shooting is for nerds, and probably sees no issue with a Dame/Andre/Martin/Kuzma/Giannis "small-ball" lineup.

What if I told you Brook is off the books next year?

so the full MLE would be left, nice. need to replace brook, midds, bobby, brook for the MLE. plus get younger and more athletic with teh assets they have.

Posted this in the Middleton trade thread. But according to John Hollinger on The Athletic trade deadline live update blog:

"Milwaukee also will get two small trade exceptions out of this, worth 8.1 million and $2.8 million."

Giannis needs to give some weirdo interview that makes people think he wants to leave then trade for Cam Johnson because the Nets are gullible

Ironman Brook is now listed as questionable for tonight. If he sits it could, COULD mean a trade is coming.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Could easily be legit but the anything like this approaching the deadline is always a little suspicious. Especially since he just doesn't miss many games.

Nice. We are going to trust the GOAT Horst with not only more trade exceptions, but cap flexibility. FML.

I am all for change and retooling around giannis, but none of the moves or anythign ive seen gives me confidence they will be successful.

We are 16th currently in attempts and that’s with one of the leagues highest usage guys being completely unable to shoot threes. Trade Gianni’s for Durant with nothing else changing and we are top 5 in the league in three point attempts.

Edens spends a ton of money, always has. When Lasry wanted to cut payroll Edens said no and Lasry sold out. This has nothing to do with saving money. Getting under the 2nd apron? Sure. That makes sense. But it's not a money dump.

Multiple of the largest posters on here have already said this is a nonsense take today. Being cheap is not one of our ownership groups faults, it's entirely about the additional flexibility afforded for being under the second apron.

This move wouldn't allow ownership to save money in any form or fashion? I was under the impression that the Haslem's are looking to save as much as possible.

Calling these owners cheap is quite the hot take.

They are also talking about details from 5 seasons ago, things change in an instant in business...especially with this much money involved.

Lopez is making $23 mil expiring this year. Could see us getting a long term replacement before the deadline.

Yes is saves money for now anyway. But that's not the reason it was done. Getting under the apron was needed, whether by trading Middleton for less or Pat or anyone that resulted in less salary coming back. Getting under the apron means our '31 pick stays unfrozen and allows us to aggregate contracts in future deals. We are still WAY over the cap. And our spending has increased since Haslam came on board. As long as Giannis is here we aren't going cheap.

It’s about freeing up space next season.

Pat + Khris aren’t guys that guarantee you anything in the playoffs anymore. Our floor and ceiling for this season haven’t changed. Cut the dead weight and reset next year.
