I'm pretty sure that's the only non-kid movie I saw this year. I used to laugh at people like me.

My wife and I have made a plan to watch Marriage Story. Should happen by Memorial Day.

I find this funny because it's a movie about a failing marriage.

Very few surprises. Despite all the other awards it's gotten leading up to it, I'm still surprised that "Jojo Rabbit" got so much love, especially Johansson for Supporting Actress.

They've been yawn ever since they expanded them.

Saw 1917 on Saturday. Good, but not Best Picture good IMO.

I can totally relate. Mine are 9 and 12 now, it gets better. Get the most out of it, if you go f.ex (speaking by experience) 3 times to see Frozen, you get ~ 6 hours of extra sleep at bargain price

I think this has probably helped more good films get in than mediocre ones.

Mine are 19, 15, 12, 9 & 6. So we're almost back to having our lives back.

And yes, I did fall asleep during Frozen 2. I make no apologies for it whatsoever. Too bad I snore or I could've slept through the whole thing.

Probably didn't help that "Frozen II" was pretty dull.

True, but I had my mind made up before I sat down.

FrieAaron wrote:I don't think I've seen anyone's top 10 lists of 2019 yet. What did you guys enjoy?

1. Parasite
2. Waves
3. Pain and Glory
4. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
5. Uncut Gems
6. The Two Popes
7. 1917
8. The Irishman
9. The Beach Bum
10. Marriage Story

I was going forth between a number of movies for the last few. HM: "Little Women," "The Last Black Man in San Francisco," "The Farewell"

It's hard for me to rank because there was no single film that stood out as extraordinarily great this year. But to take a stab based on what I've seen:

1. Avengers: Endgame
2. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
3. The Irishman
4. Joker
5. The Two Popes
6. Us
7. Doctor Sleep
8. Spider-Man: Far From Home
9. Ford v. Ferrari
10. Captain Marvel

I'm mostly ranking these based on personal enjoyment rather than their brilliance as films. I'm also probably going to see Just Mercy this week so that might pop on to this list.

Haven't seen Little Women, Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, 1917 or Marriage Story.

I feel like the academy was ready to give Once Upon a Time in Hollywood all the nominations before anyone even saw it. I wonder why....

They definitely love the smell of their own farts.

But it was a pretty good movie.

I really liked 1917, the illusion of one, continuous camera shot drew me in and made me feel like I was trying to keep up.. or watching a play.

Also, there is just not a lot out there on WW1. So it was stimulating to be engrossed in the era. I don’t know much about it.

1917 is probably not the best movie of the year, but its going to have a ton of staying power (the kind of movie thats always streaming or on cable).

I’ve also decided I have given Star Wars much too much reverence and I only esteem it as I do because the original three were so formative in my youth. My kids are always watching the franchise now on Disney +, and its all way cornier and melodramatic than I remember. I also am realizing Lucas ripped off a lot of the ideas I have always attributed to his creativity.

I guess this sort of backlash is probably the downside to over exposure. Ive always liked Star Wars. But the hype and the new movie every other year and the recasting of perfectly cast actors (Solo) just wore out my relaxed sensibilities.

Empire is the only one that approaches a great movie. The first is still entertaining and obviously a landmark movie at the time.

IMO the best Star Wars content I've seen as been in The Mandalorian and Clone Wars. I haven't watched SW Rebels yes, but I've heard that's good, too.

My favorite movies so far this year are probably Parasite and Once Upon a Time, which I coincidentally saw on the same flight. Have yet to see 1917, Little Women, The Lighthouse or The Farewell of some of the other nominated films.
