I get that these stats are important but I hate how important they have become. Listening to Dunc'ed On and it seems every conversation ends with... "well it could be hot 3 point shooting" or "the they have a lot of 3 point luck".

I mean it's right to acknowledge and talk about, but so damn uninteresting to talk about.

I think it cuts to the point and should make sports fans smarter, and better gamblers.

Appreciate these stat posts you do.

Not surprising on Boston. Stevens is a great, great coach, that can create an awesome system team (as we saw from 2015-2018).

Kyrie just messed all of that up. All of it.

How do the Suns watch the Euro basket 2 years ago and think...nah I don't want Luka... give me the coach.
Ryan McDonough was one of if not THE worst GM of all time.

Among the fan base it was about a 50/50 split between Ayton and Luka. The Bender experience spooked some and there was also the UofA homers who favored Ayton. I do think Ayton will be a good player, great hands and touch for a big but Luka is awesome.

I mean I'm sitting here thinking about that and failing to make the connection, what does Bender have to do with Doncic? Similar haircut? Different country, different position, completely different performance as a teenager, different everything basically.
That's like saying I'm scared of drafting people from north of Mexico again because of the Wiggins experience LOL

You're not wrong. But it's just the reality of it. Same reason Porzingas got booed in NY.

Again, you're right it shouldn't. But if you want to put your head in the sand and act like the stereotypes don't exist then go ahead.

"Can't miss" guys fail all the time in the pros. Ayton was and still probably is one of the best offensive big-man prospects of the last decade. Doncic is a generational point-forward prospect, but he had plenty of warts and question marks heading into the draft (conditioning, athleticism, defensive upside). I thought the Kings were crazy not taking him at #2, but I definitely saw a scenario where he could have flamed out or just be an "average" player due to a bunch of factors. I don't think that "Euro bias" really had much to do with it, or is really much of a thing anymore.

I am quite happy I had no such questions about Doncic.

On the other hand many NBA teams are bad at evaluating talent outside of the US.

It shouldn't mean anything at all since they were such different prospects but you know how some fans get and I think some used it as a arguing point against Luka.

Personally I was very pro Luka, you could see the BBIQ from like the first 90 seconds of his YouTube clips. He would have been my pick without question. Now with that said I understood the Ayton appeal, he's very skilled and projects as a guy who should be able to stretch out to 3 because he shoots FTs well and has great touch. D is the question but even there he has all the physical tools you would ever want and is actually pretty good at guarding the guy in front of him, it's help d that he struggles with but got noticably better as the year went on and actually played a great defensive game against the kings before his suspension.

Bagley was the pick I didn't get at all, he's been better than I expected but I would have taken both JJJ and wendall Carter over him at the time of the draft.

Oh and id like to state again it's almost criminal negligence that Ryan McDonough was allowed to make that pick for the Suns, just a train wreck of a GM at all aspects of the job from draft, to trades, to hiring coaches, to dealing with players and the media.

The Kings were the least to blame because Doncic didn't cooperate with their FO. The Hawks probably failed by not trying to add Young and Doncic to the roster (wasn't a given that Young would have been pick #5). Another take-home-message is to not underrate highly productive Europeans (and not overrate highly decorated but unproductive Europeans).

Doncic was the Euroleague MVP at 19, any warts he had were of the elbows-too-pointy variety.

"Europeans" when it comes to basketball attributes means nothing.
You can get anything from Doncic and Dragic to Giannis and Gobert, literally every extreme and anything in between.
It's a box of chocolates :D
