I'm pretty jealous. I'm kind of in the opposite position. I've said this to friends and family before who've asked me over the years why I don't just leave and move to a bigger city, but I can't because my job is too good. Incredibly stable company that never fires people or lays anyone off, position of respect, allows me to learn or train as much as I want, autonomy to do whatever I want because I'm a one person department, and absolutely zero stress in 15 years. It's so good that I broke the dress code that had been around for 90 years because I just wanted to wear jeans and hoodies every day, and eventually other people just said hell with it and did it too.

The previous three places I worked post-college don't even exist anymore and I remember the hell of being laid off. I really like my town a lot. But it's undeniable that socially I'd be way happier if my perfect job was in the Cities or Milwaukee.

Does anyone here still use eBay? It came to mind because I just saw they reported earnings and the last quarter revenue was over $1 billion. So people do still use it. I remember when it was truly just an auction site and individuals selling their stuff. You had to pay by check (and wait for it to clear) or money order and hope you got your item. PayPal was huge when that started being used.

But I never think to even go there anymore, it's been years.

I go to slickdeals.net daily, which is just basically an affiliate site of deals. Occasionally it’s eBay and I use it. That’s literally the only time I do. But sometimes the deals are amazing.

Mrs. Finn was looking for some old Christmas lights to add to string lights she got from her Mom (RIP). The only place I found a set was on eBay last Fall; I used Buy It Now without issue.

I'll occasionally use eBay when I either need a part for something I'm working on, or I want something used/vintage for a project. Last thing I bought was an old boombox for a raspberry pi project.

Last day of my 5 year anniversary trip to Secrets Moxche in Playa del Carmen. Highly, highly recommend. I’ve been to probably 20 or so all inclusives in the Caribbean and this one takes the cake.

I had decided to do it in April or May as the warm weather gets here. But I'm wrapping up a big project this week and it's best to leave now rather than start something new and leave in the middle of it.

Yeah, I'm getting there with my job. We have aides in our school, my class is clearly the worst in the school (this year alone I've had fist fights, a kid saying he wanted to kill another kid etc.) and other classes are the ones who get the aides. I can get literally no work done in my room at any point because I constantly have to be on guard and aware of everything going on because I never know when the next fist fights or whatever the **** is going to break out.

That's pretty amazing. I'm happy for you.

I left my grown person job almost 9 years ago. I was not set up financially beyond a few months, had wonderful parents without the means of helping even if they wanted to, and no real investments to speak of. Just me and my wife working together..every day.

Best decision we ever made even though we make nowhere near the money we would have.

It's certainly going to be weird not having a paycheck. But I sure won't miss the corporate BS. Constant re-org after re-org so management can check a box at the end of the year that they "did something". No more having to listen about bandwidth, circle back, deep dive, move the needle, action plan, push the envelope, pivot and all the other stupid corporate buzzwords.

Used ebay a lot when I used my bike more, could always easily find a random part that I needed at a good price. I think that is why they’ve gone heavy into the auto market with part sales, bc its great for that.

Nice. I was looking to do one this winter but it didn't work out.

Randomly i buy from stores that have sales. I work from home and Adidas had some crazy sales earlier in the year where would be 70% off plus another 30% with a code. I don't understand the need to sell through eBay versus just running ads to direct people to their site, but I guess it isnt much different than Amazon store fronts.

A friend of mine does antiques/upcycled furniture/etc, and she says effectively the entire antiques business across the globe happens via eBay. Even physical shops tend to list their things on eBay I guess. I have no idea how much business that actually makes, mind you, but I guess it's basically the one and only site for it.

Heading to Egypt in April for about two weeks. Planning to hit up Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, and perhaps a couple days on the beaches in Hurghada. Anyone have any recommendations or tips?

Yep. Still good for music, music gear, vintage clothes and such. If you have dialed-in tastes, I still think ebay combines scale and functionality better than anybody.

Discogs has taken a serious downturn and is mostly overseas sellers. Amazon automatically goes to their digital music store.

I use it for guitar parts pretty regularly. There are some legit storefronts, and tons of Chinese counterfeits if you venture away from them at all. Sometimes the Chinese counterfeits are Actually Good, Though.
