“We were aware that timing was getting a little hazy,” Taylor told Variety. “We’ve got Gendry running back, ravens flying a certain distance, dragons having to fly back a certain distance…In terms of the emotional experience, [Jon and company] sort of spent one dark night on the island in terms of storytelling moments. We tried to hedge it a little bit with the eternal twilight up there north of The Wall. I think there was some effort to fudge the timeline a little bit by not declaring exactly how long we were there. I think that worked for some people, for other people it didn’t. They seemed to be very concerned about how fast a raven can fly but there’s a thing called plausible impossibilities, which is what you try to achieve, rather than impossible plausibilities. So I think we were straining plausibility a little bit, but I hope the story’s momentum carries over some of that stuff.”

“It’s cool that the show is so important to so many people that it’s being scrutinized so thoroughly,” he continued. “If the show was struggling, I’d be worried about those concerns, but the show seems to be doing pretty well so it’s OK to have people with those concerns.”

Lol, as if being flabbergasted by that episode requires scrutiny.

I do like the idea of aliens coming down and abducting Jon Snow because ehhh suspension of disbelief.

Two big differences between something like this and something like Theon shooting a wildling with an arrow to save Bran in S1. One -- Theon was known to be in the area and looking for Bran. So as a viewer, while the heightened tension is a little contrived,
all of the pieces that came together to resolve it were recently established. We know that Rob and Theon are actively looking for Bran, it's just a matter of whether they find him *just in the nick of time*.

Spoiler:
This is the key, I think. The tension might still have been a bit artificial, and the plan kinda dumb, but most of us would have been okay if the core components were in place ahead of time. Dany trying to get to the party in time would have been compelling enough with a couple of basic pieces assembled (a more believable messenger, and Dany waiting at Eastwatch). That's it. Hell, they could have gotten really fancy and had Benjen meet Jon and friends beyond the wall, but before everything went to hell. Benjen's presence would have been established in advance, AND he could have functioned as a believable messenger. This wouldn't have solved every problem (how does ice work exactly?), but the core plot would have been much more plausible.

Spoiler:
Can we talk about Arya just leaving her face bag lying out in the open like a teenager in an after school special forgetting to put away her birth control? That had to be intentional, right? I really need it to be. She's either the equal of a Faceless Man or she isn't.

They handle putting your bag away in the last class?

Spoiler:
My guess is they're swerving us with Arya, but even if that ends up being the case, I think I'm going to end up pretty dissatisfied. First, they've played Arya's arc straight for multiple seasons now. We all thought she had something up her sleeve with the Waif, but nope, she was just an idiot, and somehow lucked her wait into winning a duel with an assassin after getting stabbed in the stomach. Second, they've given us few in-world hints that there's mischief afoot. We can hypothesize that Arya and Sansa may be working together, and that Bran might have informed them of Littlefinger's treachery, but where is the groundwork? If you're not working with a bunch of meta information, how could you ever guess Arya's behavior was an act? All my swerve guess is based on is a bit of genre savvy, and an attempt to justify otherwise ludicrous behavior.

She puts on other people's faces to physically become them and she needs a safe to keep her basic ass sister from finding them?

Would hope she wouldn't need magic to hide her bag of faces more effectively than the average 13 year old boy hides porn.

Have you asked yourself why she needs to go to any great lengths to hide those faces? It clearly didn't bother her that Sansa found out. Arya DGAF.

Yeah that's a totally different line of thought from the one you've been trying to advance, but yes, I have thought of that, which is why I was asking about it in the original post you replied to.

They can both be true. Not a lot of great hiding places, and Arya not caring either way.

Spoiler:
I believe just like Littlefinger wanted Arya to find the note, Arya wanted Sansa to find the faces. That probably was her way of telling Sansa that she isn't the same girl she was when they last seen each other. She's not to be **** with, she's a killer now.

Spoiler:
Sometimes you gotta put away the over analyzing hat and just enjoy something that is presented in an overwhelmingly entertaining way. Plot hole? Implausibility? For sure. But ladies and gents, we're watching a show about dragons and an undead ice zombie army in a fictional fantasy land with prophecies, curses, spells etc. Its fantasy entertainment and quite honestly the best fantasy story that's ever been told. With so few episodes left I'm focusing on enjoying the ride.

ETA: The top 5 GOT deaths that have most **** me up in order:

1) Hodor
2) Any of the direwolves
3) The giant from the battle of the bastards
4) Viserion
5) Ned

Jon Snow initially made the list but I quickly realized he wasn't dead dead. Oddly I wasn't really bothered much by the red wedding as Robb was super annoying in his bad decision making.

Agree with all of this. I started listening to a GOT podcast last week on a long drive to Nashville and had to turn it off after 15 mins because of the overanalyzing.

I enjoyed this episode immensely, was on the edge of my seat.

I think I can appreciate GOT more comparing it to **** booking/storylines like WWE.

We've had 6 seasons worth of slow build. The fuse has been burning long enough, it's time for **** to explode. I'm enjoying the pacing immensely. There's no filler, every scene and conversation means something now.
